has anyone put one of these into their boxster? it seems to be the best value hp/£ mod to start off with. Anyone know a good place to get them from and rough prices? ($380 in the states).

I've got one on my 2.5, it sounds great but was a total b*tch to install!

I fitted a K&N air filter to my old 2.5 but have no experience with the Evo system. Try the US Porsche Pete's Boxster Board: www.986board.com/board/986board.htm

There are a number of threads in the archives on the Evo system and some warnings over mass air flow errors registering in the car's DME. You'd also need to talk to your OPC (assuming the car is under Porsche warranty) about your position if you fit this. The K&N was OK and my OPC fitted it during a service for me but I feel you'd be less lucky with the Evo.

I'm sure there's an OEM (Porsche) Cup air intake that can be fitted to the 996 (and GT3) but I'm not sure about the Boxster.

You may want to have a look at this site: www.dealerdesign.com/evo/ and several threads on http://forum.boxa.net/ in the ‘Technical Questions & Tuning Chat & Tips’ section before buying.
