i need a few bits and bobs for my 968 and have seen this website,
im after 1 clear front indicator light (broke one and had to revert to the original orange ones), some clear sidelights to match, also some black and white center cap badges (going for a monochrome look) and the polished exhaust tip (mine is pretty unsightly)

are they trustworthy? are there any alternatives to the exhaust tip, is it easy to fit?

i know its blasphemy on this forum to talk about a 968 other than a macho lightweight track day car but go easy i cant afford the boxster or 996 cabrio triptronic

cheers

CM STOP with the lowly 968 banter....I have done 400 miles in my CS this week and 4 in my 996...that is down to choice rather than being off the road or anything.(new toy syndrome).

I fear it is just because you had a bad day,I really didn't get the feeling of any real elitism on this forum to be honest mate.....

In response...type 911...yes ok,the one in Beckenham next to Autobahn VW garage....has all the Porsche jewellary items and a few disc brakes.Spoke with the guy not super knowledgable on Pork but semed decent enough...all the bits you want are possibly cheaper at design 911 through the dartford tunnel in Essex...If buying all in I would ask for a deal at type 911,,they are not parts that are gonna affect the performance of your car, just make you feel better.
The rear trim pipe thing, just clamps on after the rear box outlet on a 968 from what I can see..5-10 minute job which really shouldn't take long.

wasnt being serious m8, have had no negativity from my 'newbie' postings on this forum at all

did a load of miles today, and so far apart from the steering wheel scraping i mentioned before (the temp gauge seems to have settled itself) the car has stood up to my abuse quite well considering ive done nearly 2k hard miles in 1 month! still havent had time to take it to cridford's garage to have a look but they are aware of it

3 things ive noticed and i need confirming with other 968 owners are the clutch feel - is it supposed to be smooth or do most cars exhibit quite a raw feeling of vibration, the biting point and take up are fine (altho its pretty heavy) and there is no noise but i do get a mild vibration through the pedal, is this normal or is the clutch/flywheel about to die?

2ndly my brakes grumble at low speed fair bit and also dont seem to be as good as they should be, this is always from cold and can be quite disconcerting, however the more i abuse them the more they seem to improve and the grumbling doesnt occur, let them cool down and they get revert back to before, when hot id say the braking is very good especially from high speeds
the original seller mentioned he had a brake upgrade but at the time i thought he didnt know what he was on about as they certainly arent big reds, now im guessing maybe hes gone for a track biased pad/disc which isnt a great idea on the road

3rdly i get a humming noise from the rear on start up (almost like a fan), this goes away after a few mins but comes back occasionally, you can only hear when idling, any ideas?

could be im just used to hatchbacks and BMW's, but i thought the Sport would be the soft option, its actually pretty noisy and the ride walks a fine line between crashy and tolerable

im paranoid about problems and will get an independent test when i have the time and while theres still a warranty

cheers

I don't know if i am in much of a position to answer as i have had it less than 1 week.

1/ clutch, mine is smooth, but bites higher up than ideal,no vibration at all from pedal.
I beleive your car has close to 70k miles now? if this is original depending on how it has been driven, then a change may be due.Don't think you neccesarily have to change flywheel it depends how it appears when the clutch is out.The problem is not as bad as early 964 in the dual mass department...I am lead to beleive.

2/ sounds like you have some funky pads in there,my brakes don't ,make a sound, work fine...i wouldn't bother with upgrade pads for road work, they are a simple swap over before a track day.

3/ The rear humming on stsrt up is there on mine for 20-30 seconds on stsrt up,not over load.I have never heard it again after the car is warm..As it is from the rear of the car I guess it is Petrol pump getting pressure up (?)....I heard this on another car i looked at.

Sounds like a pad change may make the car more to your liking, the clutch is a service type item,i would be suprised if they would cover that on warranty of a car with such mileage.

I agree with Clubsport and would try some new pads. Won't cost more than 50 quid all inclusive and is a simple home fit.

Try removing the rear carpet and getting someone to start the car for you. You should hear the fuel pump clearly to see if that is your whirr

cheers guys, the fuel pump sound normally goes away quickly but i was stuck in loads of traffic yesterday and it started again pretty loudly, it continued for a while until i cleared the jam, was fine by the time i got home
dont know why the fuel pump would be working harder when in traffic tho

the pad thickness, brake fluid and discs look fine so as you say there may be some dodgy pads on there,

basically a good few points to chat about with the guy at GT-one (cridfords garage)

anyone used them?
theyre probably the most local specialist to me but havent heard them mentioned much

I have always found Type-911 to be good when I have dealt with them.

...so in answer to your question - Yes!

I ordered some bits n bobs from them- seemed very good, friendly and efficient. We've had a lot of rain recently, and my discs have not corroded at all 9unlike the "old discs" which would have corroded after rain like that...

Hi Eveyone

This my first post and it is in respose to the Type-911 question.

I have bought a considerable number of parts for my 993 over the last year or so. I beleive that its the old ring around and check prices with eveything! At the risk of sounding a bit stingy, I have found that it is worth checking the independant suppliers against each other. Type-911 are polite and quick, as are Design911, but then so are Jasmine and SpeedArt. No one of them is cheapest for eveything! Dont dicount your OPC either, I even found that for some genuine Tequipment parts AFN Chiswick were the cheapest! Like
the Tequipment Active Cooling System (RS style air intakes to replace the fog front lights) AFN were about £15 cheaper that both Type-911 and Design911!

Anyway, thats my first contribution and I look forward to many more!

Well I have just ordered a load of interior bits from them, and they seem really good, delivery is 10 days as some of the parts will have to be made up specially but service seems excellent so far.

One other thing to consider: the P+P on heavy things like brake parts might be very large. Overall, becuse I live in kent I was able to collect them myself, saving on P+P which made them cheaper.

Just don't visit the shop with a credit card. You might buy more then you need....

If you are looking for parts like discs, pads, suspension, wheel bearings etc near Beckenham it is worth checking out Eurocar parts a German/Swedish type chain they are no more than 10 mins drive fom type 911 and are pretty hard to beat on price for these items.
