Pretty amusing that the C4S was beaten by a clio eh?!

A C4S would also be out accellerated in certain ranges by certain westfields and caterhams and most motorbikes over 600cc. This alone doesn't stop it being a fantastic all round sportscar. Definitely worth paying the extra over the standard C4.

DAZ

PS - Can we take it you're not going to put a deposit down on a C4S then Paul?

Hang on - I just checked on Evo's The Knowledge data sheets and it doesn't look like the Renault V6 does pull the C4S
Renault Sport Clio V6 230Bhp 175Bhp/tonne 0-60 in 5.8 secs

C4S
316Bhp 218Bhp/tonne 0-60 in 5.1 secs

Unless the V6 pulls past after 60 ish ?
I know the new V6 Clarkson et al reviewd on Sunday had 255 Bhp but 25 Bhp won't make that much difference.

So was Clarkson talking out his posterior ?

Yes. If there's one thing that annoys me about motoring programs, its treating their audience as though the're thick, which is essentially what the're doing if they think we believe a V6 Clio is faster than a 996 of any flavour. Gimps.
Still compulsive watching though - an hour of (mostly) car related stuff at a perfect time of day.

And another thing...

That 'feature' on the Focus WRC team stripping down and replacing the power train brakes etc vs the Pirelli girls getting ready to go out.
W T F was that about ?
Why not just show us the girlies in skimpy clothes driving the Focus ? or them stripping it down and the blokes wearing heels and makeup.
No, ..maybe not that one.

It was just one step away from being a blonde-drapped-over-a-new-mota moment.

I had a C4S last year, no way the Clio can take it with equal drivers.

Porsche GB are likely to be pretty pissed off with the sweeping, dismissive comments spouting forth from Clarkson's @rse!!

(1) The Clio V6 cannot out accelerate a C4S (Renault's own figures show a 5.8s 0-60.
(2) He omitted to mention that punters get a lot for their money in a C4S, including Turbo brakes and suspension - not just a body kit!!

What a spastic.

Although, I agree with the general sentiment about the C4S being a bit of a tart's handbag. What's the point of all that extra weight without a power boost?

Clarkson also said the C4S has the same engine as the turbo minus the turbo`s - which isn`t really true either.

IIRC, the 993 4S was slated by motoring journos as being a bit of a tart's handbag (all show and no go - I seem to remember it got thrashed by a variety of junior supercars on a Top Gear trip to the Nurburgring a few years ago - they said the handling was "all at sea", and a lot of other mags described it as a City wide-boy's car).

Whereas the 996 C4S seems to be receiving handsome praise for handling even better than the base C2.

Given that I have recently been considering a 996 TT, I wonder if the C4S will give me everything I really need, but with less fear of losing my licence. I can't imagine that a fraction of a second difference between my C2 and a C4S is going to be very noticeable.

Just in case you wanted to see the Pirelli girls in action with a WRC rally car -
www.wrc.com/en_GB/Gallery/Photo/2002/003/RallyBabes16.htm
well OK they aren't really working on a car as such...
