Okay Guys, I just removed a standard one and fitted a Cup Spoiler today.

For those that are new to this, or are even remotely interested...

The new Cup spoiler has 115mm clearance off the ground at centre front.

Really? I remember measuring the clearance on the original splitter and it was ~75mm, so is the Cup splitter actually higher?

Finally fitted the cup splitter. I don't have a good camera to hand so I've uploaded one of a cup car. That's what it looks like.

It cost £62.50+VAT (£73.44)
I ordered the MKI clips (part number 999.507.497.40 - 01C03 Expansion) at £0.18+VAT each

Surprisingly, like David Hype, I measured it as being 115mm off the ground front centre, but remember measuring the original splitter at 75mm. It seems odd that it's shallower as I would have thought there'd need to be more downforce at the front to compensate for the bigger Cup rear wing. Maybe that is made up for by the wider horizontal width at the sides....

Can anyone confirm the ground clearance of their original splitters?

Has anyone tried fitting either of the splitters on a standard 996?

There is a thread I started on the subject on 911uk (link below) which itself has a link to a US site where this is dicussed in detail.

www.911uk.com/viewtopic.php?t=35442&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

And I too would love to see PICTURES of the standard lip spoiler fitted to see how it compares to the pics above of the Cup splitter.

How strange.....

I always thought the Cup Splitter was wider and deeper....

The Cup splitter extends 0.5-1cm further than the standard item, the angle is about the same so in reality shouldn't significantly reduce the height.

It's wider at the edges rather than blending into the spoiler as the standard item does

OK the final comparison taken by me at Bruntingthorpe on Saturday, my car with the black alloys has the Cup splitter, the other car has the standard splitter.

Perfect, cheers for the pictures.

I think i will wait till the Splitter flys off at over 140 and then get the Cup One smile

If your splitter flies off at anything over 120mph I'd hang on tight, it happened to me and the car was very floaty. With the splitter on and 150mph it is rock solid smile

So folks sorry to return to this subject, but i have been losing my Mk2 splitter at regular intervals. I have finally given up with it.

But it does look better with one fitted and I am now concerned that at high speed, ie German speed, it will lose some stability.

Anyone got any commnents?

How easy is it to live with the Cup version?

Thanks

Roger

Hi Roger

I gave up with the splitter and haven't noticed any difference, at any speed or conditions so don't worry about it. I agree about the looks but it's not worth the hassle.

Cheers

I 've the same model as shown by Mousem40.

Instead of buying it in OPC, I'm thinking about finding some fibre glass specialist who could make a mould...and then a lot of "cheap" spoilers...

After one year driving my 996/aerokit, I think that I will have to change this spoiler yearly!

To stop it coming off:

Use feircely sticky double sided tape.

You can also bolt and washer it on in two of the fitting holes one either sid at the front- but it does risk ripping out a hole if the washers and bolt heads are too big. (and you need the bumper off to do it) - it wont come off at speed if you do these two things.

Note that the splitter to ground distance is determined by the ride height of the car - these differ depending on the ride height set on the spring/damper!
