March '04 Delivery - new Avus Silver X50 Turbo

Due to crazy UK allocation problems I cannot get a new Turbo to my specification until next year. My dealer had promised October '03 until Porsche moved the goalposts.
So, I had to think long and hard about whether I wanted to wait that long, and what the alternatives were. I was tempted by a GT2 and my dealer actually had one in stock, but, no PSM and no 4-wheel drive and 462BHP would have made no sense at all in the British climate. Also, I do occassionally dive longish distances and find the PCM-II and Bose Audio in my C4 useful and enjoyable.
So, if I'm going to wait until next year I wanted something a little more special. I had ordered an Arctic Silver car with Seal Grey coming a close second. Arctic is a popular colour and Seal is a little too dark and, well, grey for me. So on Saturday I was at the Audi dealer and saw the most gorgeous Avus Silver Pearl Effect on a TT (Audi) Coupe and RS6. I knew straight way that was the colour for me. Not sure if this pic will reproduce properly but at least you'll get an idea :-

Congratulations on your newly ordered toy, MEGA spec, fantastic car.
I don't want to open a can of worms , but were you aware that the new 997 series is due out in Autumn 2004 & the new Turbo is due (according to Autocar) in 2005. If it was me I'd buy a second hand Turbo now (there are some great buys out there at the moment, a little of the depreciation is gone & meridian silver is near the colour you have posted) then run it until 05 when you could PX it for a 997 TT, all you need to do is move your deposit !! Just a thought, whichever way you go you'll end up with an awesome car !

splendid. An excellent spec. I see you're going for the lowered seat option. If headroom is a problem (eg when using a helmet in my case
) it may be worth also speccing the car without the sunroof which is standard on UK spec. This may or may not affect future resale value though. Grant speaks some very wise words, but if you are going to go ahead with the 996tt X50 anyway roll on March 04!!

According to my dealer there will be no 997 Turbo until very late 2005 at the earliest. That gives me at least 18 months of pure motoring nirvana before anything that could possibly be considered better appears 
In any case I thought I'd get my order in today for the 997 Turbo
Regarding the sunroof delete option, I am informed this cannot be done on UK cars - a shame because I would certainly go for it.

I was reading on Rennlist that in the US (porsches biggest market) they are limiting the production of TT coupes to something like 80 cars for the 04 modelyear.
The reason for this is to concentrate and keep demand for the TT cab and GT3models.Obviously before the regular 997 Carrera launches..This does sound like a familiar Porsche scenario at the end of a model run.
This is good news for anyone who owns a late X50,,,hoping you get it,but i would try to find out how many cars are definitely coming to the UK.

It has taken until today for my dealer to confirm I am able to specify sunroof delete. Quite why it has taken this long is beyond me but at least I'll gain some extra headroom, a bit more rigidity and lose a feature I would have never used.
Interesting, only thing I would say is....the small gain's in deleting the option (you won't notice them with the grunt the TT has) will be offset by loosing A/ the "raised" roof option, which does let a little more exhaust sound into the cabin & b/ It makes it slightly less desirable come re-sale (A sunroof is an £800-ish extra on a standard 996 & part of the TT's extra value).
It all depends how much you need the extra headroom, I'm 6/1 & don't have problems !! Just thinking of your wallet.

Me neither. Mine was due November but now it's March. Hey, maybe you knicked my build slot?
Ordered from Solihull Porsche Centre because they offered (at least initially) the shortest wait. I have a suspicion they were more interested in getting my order than providing a reliable delivery date. Still, I've managed to get the colour to sample charge thrown in.
