GT2 Upgrade
Yet more performance for the monster 911 in 2004
Discussion
Hmmmm..... confirms what I was told at the factory in June.
Not much of a change though really, new chip for a few bhp I like, the wing would probably look good on a black car and naff on the others. As for the wheels, I prefer the originals.
Mind you I might be able to see if I can get the new chip for my GT2 that way I can keep the warranty intact.
Guy
PS List price for a GT2 was £116k and I doubt it has gone down (the euro prices are always lower for lhd)
That is a very expensive chip to give 20 odd bhp...
that cannot do the resale value of your car any harm at all.
Guy you mentioned you might consider the new chip for yours,is it worth upping it by 20bhp?
I would have thought 550 from RUF although expensive would transform the car.Surely RUF with their reputation would cover the guarantee providing they did the conversion work themselves.

Clubsport,
It does seem amazing that they have added that much when there is virtually no extra production cost to them for what is added ie a different chip, wheels and optional spoiler........ I'm pleased though as it cannot hurt my residual value.
I think this will drop GT2 sales even further, not that they sell many anyway. A premium of £36k over a Turbo and £28k over an X50 Turbo is a lot to justify......
As for me, I have had a quote from Ruf and they do provide a warranty, but my concern would be what happens to anciliaries ie if your gearbox blows up I doubt Ruf will warranty it and Porsche might turn round and say no since it has had to take more power.
One of the big reasons I bought the GT2 after the tuned Skylines was for reliability and certainty of warranty, so I'll probably keep it standard for a while. If Porsche will sell me a new ecu for say £2k I might get it, to remain within warranty.
Guy
PS Hope you are still enjoying the RS....
Guy, Fair point on the ancillaries, that could work out at quite an expense. It's hard to imagine 20bhp will make any real noticeable difference at all in the real world...where ever that is in a GT2!
I drove the RS at the w/e for the first time in just over 2 weeks.Started on the button and runs well.I have done approx 700 miles now and the lhd, noise and bumpy ride are now more or less habitual.I can get down to driving it,for me the performance is adequate rather than electrifying, but the grip and hndling more than make up for it.
Soon to start on expense,glassware..fogs etc....sports exhaust maybe RSR mufflers to start,a set of lighter wheels and general tidy up of front/rear bumpers.
All going well thanks.
Another thing I notice,is the different kind of attention it gets,,,black with the wing and appearing in the rear view mirror it has the Moses effect, where cars get out of your way...Did you notice this or is this nothing compared to the effect of your car?
cheers

Most of the cars I've had in the last few years have had that effect on traffic, especially when the closing speed is high. The GT2 seems as good at parting traffic as the R34 GTR did.
Glad to hear the RS is going well, it is an addictive car. I felt there was very little worth modifying on them myself, since the cost to get extra performance is quite high in £ per bhp, as for most non-turbo engines. Losing some weight will help though, but is also hard to do. (A friend of mine has a carbon panelled 993RS which only weighs 1120kg).
