Last week the gearbox on my 911 (1983 3.0 SC) died...
lots of you have replied to my last posting with advice( THANKS FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT), but i am still looking for a gearbox that i can buy and have fitted so i can get back on the road and start blowing the Max Power Boys in there Saxo's...
Any how i might have found a gearbox but the sell says its Porsche 911 Gearbox 5 speed late 60's and is in Good condition and its serial number is 5190281.
SO THE BIG QUESTION IS
Will this box fit my 1983 3.0 SC and will the gear ratio's mess up the 0-60 times and top speed, and is this box able to take the power from my 3.0 engine..
Any help would be welcome...

Not much help, but the best gearbox for a 1983 3.0SC will always be a gearbox from a 3.0SC (between 1979 and 1983). This is a '915' type gearbox IIRC, and many early 3.2 Carreras also use it (between 1984 and 1987).
So you have at least 8 years of cars produced with this box, which would probably fit straight in. This may be simpler than the problems associated with older gearboxes etc as you may have speedo drives off them that don't work with your car, plus they may be old and shagged. It may cost you MORE to get a 60s box up to spec than to get a 915 box.
What is your budget here? I have recently reserved a 1992 close ratio G50 964RS box with LSD for 800 quid, and this is an expensive and rare box in comparison to a boggo 915. I reckon a 915 should be no more than 300-500 quid second hand.
If you are paying any more than 50 quid for the 60's box it may be uneconomical to attempt to fit to your car.

Don't buy the early box, it will not fit.
A known good 911SC 915 will cost around £700-800 used, an unknown one with probably worn syncros will be less at £500-600. You can also fit the 3.2 Carrera 915 from 1983-86 models, this will be around £800-1000 typically. Steer well clear of any other gearbox, you are asking for more trouble than it is worth.
