Talking to them about a LHD 993 type car and, without asking for anything possibly slanderous, wondered if any of you have had any dealings with them.

Its just one option as I still like the 3200GT but keep getting warning noises about them rightly or wrongly.

Finally regarding 993s, are convertibles worse to drive?

Help please?

Domster and Scottster have had dealings with this company. Not aware of any problems.

I'm moving this thread to the Porsche Forum due to RSJ being primarily a used Porsche dealer.

Scottster has sold a car to Joel at RSJ, at a fair price. Joel also offered me a fair p/x price on a car I had. In my dealings with him over the email, he is a friendly and pleasant chap, and he occasionally posts in this forum (usually in UPPER CASE ).

Beyond that, neither Scottster and I can vouch for him. But bear in mind that most traders come in for a spot of good and bad press. It is rare to have one who only gets good comments. You will have to make your own mind up about Joel, I'm afraid - and anything contentious should be posted to you off forum to avoid breaching name/shaming rules.

Cheers
Domster

PS 993 convertibles are allegedly a little 'worse' to drive, as they are not as stiff, but I doubt you'd notice unless on track or on a very bumpy B-road.

But heck, it's still a gorgeous car and the chainsaw wail is that bit louder than normal

Thanks - anyone had any problems switching to LHD from RHD or do you just watch for panic expressions on the passenger's faces when you want to overtake?

Second craig's thoughts. I have owned both LHD and RHD cars, often at the same time, and no problems apart from the odd overtake (hang back more and you should in theory look up inside anyway) and ticket machine (get a passenger! or get out and walk... quite unusual act so people don't mind.)

You normally get asked this question when taking a passenger out in your left hooker. After them telling you how weird it is, they will ask you how you find driving LHD.

To shut them up, I used to say: 'It's great, in a head on collision the passenger takes the worst of the impact leaving the driver to walk away."

Don't tell the girlfriend that tho'

Thanks for your comments - they seem very helpful and so I just wanted some encouragement before possibly taking things further.

Certainly the 993s sound like brilliant everyday cars which is a concern that I had about the 3200GT.

Its just making sure that I buy the right one!

I had one of those childrens toy grabber (pinching fingers by squeezing the handle) type things for pulling tickets from multi story car parks in a lhd car.

Worked marvellously.

Pedals felt odd though. (e36 m3)

my experiences of lhd's are same as others.Easy to adjust too really, pro's and cons to it.You're next to the pavement so makes sliding up next to the ladies is easier.Passenger on the autobhan with someone who'd never driven it.Frightening.He couldnt position the car at all in the middle of the lane.Overtaking was unbelievably hairy.Once you get used to where your passenger side front corner is,its easy.Personally,I'm in a rhd and wont go back to lhd again.

Feeling guilty now.

After asking all these questions and really getting loads of advice from you all - and Joel @ RSJ, I ended up looking at one up here and then buying an XK8 Convertible.

Ah well, what have I done? Maybe next time....

I'm sorry but I can't beleive anybody would contemplate a Porsche, any Porsche, and an XK8 in the same breath, paragraph, sentence, thought.....

Chalk and cheese......pass the port dear boy.
