Penalty notice arrived this week stating that they had clocked me driving the 944 down Pall Mall last Friday afternoon and as I hadn't paid that would be £40 please. I wish I'd been at home to see whoever borrowed the car carrying it over the (immobile) Land Rover that was parked in front of it in the drive at the time and then lifting it back again. And I'm impressed that they managed to get in to it and bypass the immobiliser without leaving a mark on it. Most of all I'm grateful to them for returning it to the house, lifting it back over the Land Rover and for the care they took to let the exhaust cool before putting the cover back on so as not to melt it.

But those cynics in the Metropolitan Police think there must have been a mistake as they think that the borrowers would have misbehaved in other ways as well, like speeding and parking on yellow lines. But I pointed out that such considerate folk would have been sure to follow the Highway Code.

Hopefully I'll get the pictures soon!
Guy.

Those cameras can misread number plates. The only difficulty will be if it is a stolen 944 that has had your number plate affixed to it, as then the police may want some proof it wasn't you.

Curious question this one, this has also happened to a pals car. good photographic evidence shows a scoobydo with his registration clearly displayed ! but not his car, looking carefully at photograph shows different exhaust and small turbo badge, otherwise very similar, he has taken a photograph of his car and sent it back stating that the car WAS NOT present at this event and to study the differences ! we await his reply [interestingly he has not identified his profession yet, Police Officer] will keep U all posted

I've received a reply. Apparently it was a clerical error so I don't need to pay! No apology though.
