I have no experience of 968 but did have a 944S2 for quite some time. The S2 was sensitive to tyre choice, with SO2`s being my choice. While predominantly an understeerer, the S2 was quite tail happy with ropey tyres and the standard suspension was too soft to make the oversteer easy to control and I spun a few times.
If you are going to change the dampers go for the Koni adjustables with uprated lowering springs – it transformed my car. Instead of feeling like an oil tanker with a hinge in the middle it became a go kart with lift off and power oversteer easy to control making the driver look like a hero.
I`m not sure if an LSD is needed as there isn`t really enough power to upset a good tyre – it would probably totally eliminate power oversteer.

Based on the evidence of passing 964RS`s on track.
Was clearly baiting, but you are quite correct the driver would be more important than any difference in the cars, which is something to think about when comparing cost differences.
The power thing is a red herring as few of either are standard anyway and as you say 300bhp is the max without larger injectors.
In truth if I knew then what I know now I`d have bought a LHD RS as the car is mainly for trackdays now, and the RS has too many nice touches that are impractical to change in a C2, but this wasn`t the case originally and isn`t in DanH senario. Personaly I wouldn`t have any LHD or any 964RS as a daily driver, and I wouldn`t spend an extra £20k for an RS but everyone is entitled to a different opinion.

i need new tyres soon as well and would go for F1 GSD3 by habit which is very grippy so drifting would be much harder to provoke and almost a moot point,
i was thinking about adjustable koni's but where would i get uprated lowering springs?
there are H&R front springs available but they are only 25mm lower than a standard coupe and mine has the clubsport springs (-20mm) so those wouldnt make a huge difference i would have thought
does anyone know the poundage of the standard CS front springs, the H&R's are supposed to be in the 190-210 range and ive been told its advisable to go for a stiffer spring with tighter dampers

In case any one didn't buy it:

If the car for sale in Potters Bar has a unique, rather ugly, red and black steering wheel, then I know the car, having looked at it in "virgin" state 5 years ago when it had just been rolled off the boat in the UK. At the time it could have been mine for under £18k, but I decided not to buy it...
I last saw it at a GBMC sprint 2 years ago at North Weald and have to say it looked somewhat different to the first time I saw it!
