I thought this may be of interest....
Throughout the summer my TT has been flying, but recently (after some electronic works)went off the boil a bit with a little lag evident, particularly between 2nd & 3rd. Asked the OPC to look at it whilst having other warranty work done. They said...........
the TT has an adaptive ECU that responds to driving style & sometimes it can get stuck in "cruise mode" (they have had this happen on a number of TT's) , they re-set the ECU (by disconnecting the battery) & I couldn't believe the different in instant pick up, I thought they had increased the boost pressure !!!
So if the TT is feeling (relative term) a little sluggish this may be the cause & worth checking out, after all we don't want to be missing any of our horses do we ?!?

Interesting warning there Grant. Really the 996tt is like a highly strung racehorse, you've got to give it a good whipping at least once a week or it gets unfit and lazy.

Gave mine a thorough thrashing up and Bruntingthorpe yesterday, with Don Palmer......... it turned into a rather wet weather handling day (should really have taken a boat) but not before I'd destroyed all four tyres! so off to those lovely people at micheldever tyres tmrw!

Not yet I'm trying to get to the bottom of the differences between all the stage one upgrades and more importantly discovering which ones are correct for UK spec cars (emmissions etc. etc.) (and also which diverter valves and airfilters would be best) - as I've come to the conclusion that I'm going to have to remove the ECU and Fedex/UPS it over to the states which obviously means that I'll be without it and unable to move the car for a week or so, however I will keep you all posted as to my progress!!

Charlie

Glad it wasn't just me that got through an entire set of tyres with Don. Expensive, but fab day (Don is right *out there* isn't he!).

Totally agree Charlie - whenever anybody asks me how to reduce lap times - I send them to Don... Just as you think you can drive fast... Don will set you straight!

Charlie there is a brief article on a 996TT ECU upgrade
in the October issue of GT mag, thought this may prove of interest. Also a couple of guys I have spoken to who seem to be a fountain of knowledge on the subject are...one from Stuttgart Collection & the other G-Force, both advertise in the specialist mags.

Charlie/Get Carter.....Sounds like a day with Don Palmer would be great fun, but I don't think I would be happy paying for a new set of tyres in addition to his fee. You guy's clearly aren't as tight as me. I saw Don at the Autocar sideways challenge, quite a character !!!

Hi Grant, thanks for the information out of interest what was the general consensus from GT Mag? I've looked into G-Force as they are a distributor for German tuner FVD.

As far as Don is concerned - yes it was an expensive day especially with the four tyres I shredded but I have to say worth every penny if you want to learn to drive sideways!!
