The LS1 fits nicely & is a similar weight to the 944 engine - you can get conversion kits in the US for 944's but not 924's. Probably better to start with a LHD drive car smile

here's one that was done earlier....

I'm sorry Brett but your wrong as usual. The Chevy Engines fit within the standard engine bay and bonnet line.

Now I'm not particularly saying I'm a fan of the conversion but please don't come up with facts that are just wrong.

IMO the Op would be better off tuning the balls off the 2.0 and gutting the car to get the weight right down.

Hi smile

I may well be wrong as regards a 924 ...but I have seen a 944 with an LS1 and Nitrous and he has a massive 2 foot square hole in his bonnet with the LS1 sticking out....now there has to be a reason for that,,,maybe the crossmember maybe something else...and maybe a 924 is easier, but its not something I would attempt....unless someone was paying me a LOT of money...

There are, as you say are a lot easier ways to make a 924 faster...Nitrous for one lol...

All the best Brett smile

I've stood in the Renegade Hybrids shop in Las Vegas with Scott, the chap who runs/owns the place, looking at various LS and LT series engines in 944s, 968s, 928s and 914s. The LS1 (or 2, 6, 7) all fit easily. They're similar dimensions to 944/968 engine and weigh about the same. Including ancillaries, they're a bit lighter than the 944 Turbo engine, and only very slightly more than the NA engines.

As I mentioned, this has been discussed at length. Anyone interested should search on "Renegade Hybrids" on here of google for a lot more info. They've stopped making a kit for the 924, but the conversion IS very possible - the economics of offering the kit just didn't add up.

I think what most people don't realise is that a 924 and 944 engine mounts are drastically different (obviously 924 turbo is same as 924, and 924s same as 944).

With one mounting to body and one to subframe. Hence a 944 kit wouldn't fit a 924, that said you can put the v8 (or any other engine) in a 924 shell.

So a Rover V8 is out of the question?

Further to what Oliver has said: a cheap 944/924S crossmember and (manual) steering rack would solve the mounting issue. All you have to do then is fit a 944 torque tube.....

Lot's of people have fitted the RV8, I can't imagine why anyone would want to though!

It truly is a lousy engine.

i think the turbo 924 someone is refering to is my mates one its yellow, but its a procharger not a turbo...and there is seriously no way, that a heavily stripped out 924 or 944 would be as fast/quick as a v8 powered 924/944...the car used to be rover powered a while back,it used the kit from uva when they were around...now is sbc 5.8,with a tko tremec box..heres a link to pics...
heres one of a dyno run, could not get prop figures that day as it over took the dyno and did a burnout on the rollers...but its in the region of 750hp at 20 psi...runs 10.5 140 at pod...
