Ok I did this quick sketch of what I'd like a front engined Porsche to look like - rather conventional like a 993 but with the engine at the right end I think I've made the wheels too big, and the roofline too low, but it's just a sketch...

Is it just me, or does it look like an Exige?

Andy's right, it looks nothing like the Exige..... it's pointing the opposite way

I think it would have to be a bit longer if it's supposed to be a 2 plus 2, but I do like the shape, especially the 'cheesy grin' intakes at the front.

Could you knock me up a full scale clay model so I can ponder it some more?

Funny you should say that, I've always wanted to make a model from clay as I'm crap at drawing in 3d. Anyone know where one would find the sort of clay they use for automotive modelling?

If it's the first time you're working on a vivid/plastic study, try high-densed styrofoam, since it is cheaper and easier to work with.

Good idea Bodo - probably better to make a mess using the cheap stuff first before finding out I'm crap at modelling in 3d as well as drawing in it

What about PC 3d modelling software?

Rhino www.rhino3d.com/ is quite good to begin with. It's not as sophisticated as Maya or 3D MCAD, but well useable for designer's needs and inexpensive computers.

It's loved by all kinds of designers, exports SDL-files (for rapid prototyping / CNC milling), renders pictures and so on.

They have an evaluation version on their site; with which you can save 25 times.

Another software is Blender www.blender3d.org which is open source and hence free with unlimited use. I have not tried this one, but it looks interesting, especially when you're using it privately
