911 GT3RS

First press car spotted at the 'Ring

PHer Martin Redwood spotted the first GT3RS press car being taken for a few laps at the Nurburgring recently. The editor of Germany's Sport Auto magazine was behind the wheel and giving it some serious stick.

The RS model is that bit more extreme than the already incredibly competent GT3 model and benefits from being 50kg lighter thanks to weight saving measures which include a perspex rear window, carbon fibre bonnet, no side airbags and removal of the cup holder! Other differences include a single mass flywheel and different air intakes.

True to form the RS also comes with rigid suspension and rides on new Pirelli Corsa tyres. Power is rumoured to be in excess of the GT3's 380bhp and approaching 400bhp.

Mmm, white with a pale blue stripe and blue alloys.... nice... NOT... What is it with German colour choices? Why cant they do something a little more, err, tasteful?

Strange people... Nice car though, shame about the colour...

Anyone remember the BMW M3 convertible show car at the motor show a few years ago? Bright plastic blue with a illuminescent yellow interior.... a paragon of style....!!!

Feck it, I'd have one even if it was in brown with an orange velour interior!

Maybe I'm strange, but I rather like that colour scheme. Prefer it to the only other colour scheme I've so far seen for the GT3 RS which is white body with red wheels and red stickers. No point in being shy in a GT3 RS imv - the louder the better. Pure track cars should be different from road cars! And I of course have to defend the gay blue colour as that's the colour of my 968

An acquaintance of mine is collecting his GT3 RS next weekend and taking it directly to the Ring. Given he came 7th in last years 24 Hrs there, I would dearly love to be there to get a passenger lap with him. He was doing 8.10 full laps (not btg) in his old GT3, so the RS should see him below 8.00 min full laps (or 7.30 btg) which would be one of lifes highlights to experience as a passenger. For me at least

I'm with Domster on this one, it could be painted poo brown and I wouldn't care.
Although I always wonder why on earth people buy brown cars - they need to see an optician!

I prefer the red over the blue in the picture although a darker blue would look even better than the red IMHO.

It's going to be interesting hearing the opinions of owners who have had the earlier GT3 derivatives. Especially chaps like Euans mate who I think I may have a video of him doing a 7'45 BTG in his earlier GT3.

The very same. He collects his GT3 RS on Friday the 10th of October in Zuffenhausen. He will then be driving it for a few hours on the Sat & Sun on the Ring. He's been waiting a looooooong time for the car to arrive - most of this year he's been without a car as he had to trade in his 2002 GT3 to get on the waiting list originally for the new 2004 GT3, then he switched to the GT3 RS. I'm sure we can get some feedback from him early next week. Will be interesting for sure.

In which case, the condition of convenience is satisfied by way of the inevitable meld that would ensue as violent disembowellment's savage prescence yielded the requisite set of ex-badgerdom.

(Btw, I think Mr. Thomas has seen some Zondas at a showroom in the quaintly titled hamlet aka Stoke Poges "down near Slough." Thunderous gherkismo, eh?)

I'm a bit surprised it'll be using Corsa tyres?
Wouldn't Vectra tyres be better suited?

I guess it's because the marketing department thought it would be a good idea to create a link to their famous 911 heritage, the 2.7 Carrera RS (which mostly had a similar colour combination), rather than creating a selfconfident new style.

Agree with the dodgy German colour choices though.
This is my proposal:

I chose the blue script over red purely because as a Spurs supporter I really couldn't bear to be seen in a car displaying Arsenal's colours, but having now seen the blue I may have to change the order (and no, supporting Arsenal is not an option)

It looked fantastic in the flesh, but I had assumed it would be a dark blue similar to the original RS's. The seatbelts were the same colour, so my guess is "Maritime Blue" although some literature calls it Mexico blue. Whatever.

The carbon fibre bonnet is great, especially when opened, plus the Porsche crest is a sticker rather than a badge. Less weight (!) and less likely to damage the carbon by being riveted to the bonnet.

Sounds fantastic at full bore, but nothing compared to the Stradale which is pretty much Le Mans Loud.

@beaver: Were you able to test drive the car? If so can you comment on the various aspects(handling, performance...)compared to the std GT3.
TIA

Yeah, the blue bits need to be darker. If that is the final colour blue and not likely to be changed, then I'd have to pick a car with red stickers. Just need to save up a bit.

Funnily enough the GT3 owners in Germany are thinking the RS is a waste of money.

We've got 6 orders for a Tuscan S from formely GT3 ownwers.

And best of all 2 guys cancelled their order of a RS for a T440R.

Well, seems that Blackpools finest are on the way here in Germany

Very interesting is also, that the profits of Porsche are going down, especially with the 996 and Porsche has to launch special series, like Lotus, to create an extra demand.
