Well, what a dilemma...

I'm in the very fortunate position of being able to buy one of the above. To be honest, I've been in this position for the last few years, but always seem to end up bottling it and buying cheaper cars. All that ever happens though is that 6 months later I end up regretting my decision, and start the whole process again. Is this just me or are others the same?

ANyway, my shortlist now consists of these 3 cars, and like a kid in a sweet shop, I'm dithering about which to buy. I need 4 seats, and the car will be used for a combination of rush hour 120 mile motorway journey once a week, plus weekend jaunts with the wife and baby daughter. My budget is around the 70k mark, and I can only fit one more car in the garage, so cant split the money and buy more than one car.

Please can you let me have your views on which you'd buy. I've driven all 3, and each has different merits.

The TT is bonkers, sensationally fast and composed, but I'm bothered that the 'invincilbility demon' will get me into trouble.

I loved the 456, but am suspicious of depreciation and running costs.

C4S is much like the 996c2 I had a while back, but comes with sports exhaust, more power, more kit and has benefit of 3 year warranty.Oh, and to my eyes at least, looks much better than the standard C2.

What do you lot think?

Many thanks for all views offered!

I think the 996TT would be the best allrounder, the c4s is a great car but I think you'd always be left thinking about your lack of turbo.

996tt. I assume you've driven one so explaination is not really required is it?

Although the 456 is a fantastic car I would personally steer clear if the intention was to put a lot of miles on it.

I'd also say 996TT, but do you need 4 proper seats?

456 is going to cost a lot of doe-ray-mee if you want to put miles on it, as Daz states.

I've been in all 3 by the way(well a standard c4), the 456 is one of my favourite cars but I think can be fragile & expensive. The C4s is beautiful & in some ways I prefer the looks to the turbo..however, the turbo is so awesomely capable whilst still being able to pootle it around town. I know which I'd have.

I'd also go for the turbo. You will get used to the power of the C4S soon enough, the 456 is beautiful but more fragile, and the turbo is much more foolproof than something like a GT3. So go for it

Thanks chaps.

Just posted this on Ferrari forum for their views.

Greg - I need 4 seats, but only for 2 adults.

The TT was truly magnificent to drive, but can't quite shake off the suspicion that I couldn't really trust myself in it. I had the same feeling many years ago in the Integrale, until the invincibility demon pushed me into a rather large tree. Maybe it's my age!

Have you considered doing a ride drive course? I haven't done yet, but many PHers have done and now feel more in control when driving faster.

Well I'll buck the trend and suggest you get something that makes you feel great just sitting in it; a car with a real sense of occasion where every journey is savoured: go with your heart and get the 456.

Given your other (very nice BTW) selection of cars I think you need something just a little special to go with them.

You may only get the chance this once (who knows?), so get the Fezza you deserve.

I am in no way qualified to answer this question having neither driven nor ridden in any of your selection.

I think you know the answer to this and its not a Porsche - you've been there and done that with a 996C2.
Practicality, sense, frugality has nothing to do with this so don't start on about depreciation, reliability, cost of ownership etc. Get a 456 and get it out of your system. I've had the money to get a 360 for years but stuck with Porsche, splitting it across a 996C2 and a 964RS.( Need the hard-core as well as the soft stuff). Its just about impossible to get it all in one car, but if you got the money put it on the dancing donkey...pretend you are a footballer
