911s should only show oil smoke at start up, IIRC.

There could be some valve guide wear, or maybe it's piston rings etc. Surprised you don't have a bit of oil conusmption, as it must be being burned from somwhere.

I'd keep an eye on it and get the garage to check it out next service. 117k miles without a rebuild is pretty good going for a 3.2. Maybe the top end was done and now the bottom end needs doing? Not sure, you can't ask a forum for anything other than general help when you have general symptoms. Sorry...

My 993 seems to have OK oil pressure and moderate consumption of oil, but there is invariably soot around the two rear wheel wings. The specialist who looks afer it says that I just don't use the car enough and the vehicle itself is absolutely fine. It's true that the car is little used (only 5k year, a couple of long Continental trips and others just short 50 mile trips). Could his diagnosis be right? The car always feels very strong and there is no evidence of blue smoke whilst driving.

The less you use your car the more oil you'll burn. This because you are allowing more oil to accumulate in the cylinders, per unit mile.

Thanks for the tip - I shouldn't really need an excuse to drive the car more. Will try harder!
