Good to see that honour was upheld, a 996TT double at the top, 360's..pah, Lambo's double pah !!!
Obviously, the Lambo wasn't being pushed... what with passenger rides being requested for women and children, I obviously didn't want to be at ten tenths. I treated the event more like that of a Sunday afternoon appearance at the local fate!!!
It's all well and good for the latest Beetle owners to go beyond their limits, knowing that the electronics will jump in and pull them out of any scrapes, and also to have the comfort of being wrapped up in the cotton-wool environment of 64 airbags, however some of us think about the responsibilities of a public event, and do not need to resort to playground rhetoric along the lines of my Dad’s got a........

Grant you should try the run as a passenger or by stander in a Diablo & 996TT...With out reference to a speedometer there is no question which feels more exciting...as stated that is just from the passenger seat, driving must be an unbeleivable experience.
As a poschephile who has nothing but respect & admiration for the TT,it just shows speed isn't everything!

Having stood for an hour by the timing machine, I’d like to confirm (IMHO) that the Lambo sounded drop dead gorgeous. The loudest thing on the Turbos was the tyre noise, but I have to say, that the understated ‘whoosh’ as they passed was also beautifully mesmeric.
Interesting thing about ‘perceived speed v real speed’ though. The new turbo - now run in (evil grin) is SO damned comfortable, that I have trouble believing what speed I’m doing. (59.9 your honour). I’ve taken out a few punters in the new motor, and they are all astonished by the acceleration, but when they get out of the car, they can still stand.
When I took people out in the R500 (which is roughly similar to about 120 mph) people used to get out of the car and (I kid you not) their knees would go. (Probably as much my driving as the car). But in a ‘crumb tray’ with no windscreen, no airbags, no PSM, no ABS and no hope of ‘making it round the corner at that speed’ – almost certain death… the R500 was a monster thrill quencher, and about as much fun as you could have with ya’ trousers on.
HOWEVER - R500 is play time only… As a grown up toy, the turbo is just fabulous. I decided to take in Tescos in Penrith last weekend - bread was cheaper up there.
Bring on the Highlands.

Cutting through my BS above, I WAS disappointed (to say the least) at the pull once it hit 160 (or more importantly the lack of it). Not sure whether it was:-
(i) down to headwind (as all cars were slower than the last time), or
(ii) a simple case of being out of tune... needs a bit of TLC anyway, so a visit to Carrera Sports is called for....
(iii)both.
Anyway, it's not doing what it says on the tin!

I think it is the tall top gear Tony - I noticed when you shifted into 5th at 150 or whatever that the revs dropped right down and the acceleration slackened off - this is simply so the old girl can get to 200 when the Ultimas have all shot their load
Dom, yes, the moment I changed into sixth then it was all over. However, not sure if it's just the gearing, since at Brunters II it got to 180, and basically I was wimping out because of lack of brakes... it was a case of me lifting off back in April.

Actually, respect is due too to Brother DeR in the 993 Monsta of his. And thanks from me and the wife for letting us out for a tootle in it.
Indeed, DeR wasn't as far behind the 996 monkeys this time. Could we see the 993 as the daddy at the next thrash? We'll see....
