Squeaky wipers

Time for a silly question. Anyone know why my wipers squeak when I use them on my Boxster S? Does this mean that I need to replace them? It's really bugging me.
Is the screen getting smeary as well? If so you need new wipers. They only last a year or so...
Also: Try RainX'ing your windscreen - absolutely brilliant and reduces squeaking. Sounds like yours need replacing though.
You may not believe this, however the best way to clean a windscreen is as follows:-
Take a copy of the Sun, Mirror, Mail or other cappy news rag, but it needs to be real news print not glossy
Remove two or 3 pages and screw them in to a ball
Soak in a bucket of plain water (no cleaner), until the ball is wet (not soaking otherwise it will fall apart).
Scrub the glass with the paper.
Honestly it really does work.
You will be amazed at how clean your WS will be and how little money you spend doing it

Hi John,
Yonks ago I did a little piece on this, in this hallowed forum. The wipers on our BoxS when we bought it squeaked like crazy, so I did a bit of shopping around and found that the OEM wiper blades from an OPC were actually cheaper than a pair of Bosch's finest from Hellfruads. Not only that, they clipped straight on, none of the "what part of the so called universal fitting kit will work best?"
From memory a new set is about £22. If yours are like ours its the drivers side wiper that cops it first for some reason - perhaps the spoiler increases drag on the screen? I don't know.
Treat yourself to a new set - it takes about 4 minutes to replace them, even for a nonce comme moi.
With regard to Rain-X, you either love it or loathe it. My missus, who drives the Porker every day, hates it. I don't mind it at all.
Finally, not had good results with Porsche's own screenwash - we inherited two bottles after the last service. Smears the screen like crazy.
HTH,
Greg

I think there must be something about Boxster Ss I had the dreaded squeak, got new blades from the OPC which worked for a while but just last night it came back on the way home - driving me bl**dy mad! I think I might try another brand and see if that works.
How long did they last? Ours have started again, probably got about 10K out of them.
Hmm, I wonder if they were meant to be a service item but in the ever decreasing service costs (thanks Fleet Departments) they are left off unless you specify that they be changed?
Given that they are an essential part of your vision I'd always insist on getting them changed at each service. Unfortunately my missus took the car in last time, and commented on what a good job they'd done valeting the car bless 'er.
