964 Performance?
Discussion
What are the performance figures for a 1992 964 C4?
0-60, 0-100, in gear times etc? What bhp and tourque?
I currently drive an Impreza Type R with 320bhp, I know the 964 won't offer the same performance (my Type R will do 0-60 in 4.3) but will there be a massive difference?
I've seen a 1992 (J) C4 at £17,500. Is that a good price?

From memory, about 5.1 secs 0-60, 13 secs 0-100 and 160 mph top whack. They are torquey enough, not sure of the in gear figures but they will be fine.
An RS is a tad quicker, gets into the high fours 0-60 wise. The Turbos can be quicker still, especially with relatively cheap 400bhp upgrade to a 3.3 engine. UV's T2 was terrifying 360 Modenas at Bruntingthorpe
bhp in C4 was 250, torque circa 260 ft/lbs from memory.
In the real world, you will find the C4 very different to drive from the Impreza - more tricky and more challenging, so adrenaline levels will be right up there. When you get it right the C4 will be very rewarding. Flat six also sounds better than a flat 4. In the real world I drove my Lotus Carlton back to back with Scottster's 964C2 and the Lotus didn't feel a lot quicker, so you shouldn't be mortally disappointed. The 964 feels appreciably quicker when on cam, so you almost feel a turbo-esque shove from 4000rpm onwards.
As for C4 at the price, it depends on condition and spec. I wouldn't personally pay that for a 964C4, but then I am a bit strange in my tastes. I would suggest you either get a 993C2 in LHD for 19k if you need an everyday car, spend 25k on a 964RS if you want a more focused road/track slag, or save some money and get the nicest 968 Club Sport you can find, complete with M030. 15k should do it, if you can find one optioned with the fabled M030.

I bought a 964 c4 in March this year - I spent a long time looking, but it was worth the wait... There are lots of things to look out for - have a look on John's site as suggested, but mainly: front wishbones, valve guide wear, through-bolt oil leaks to name a few. I found a cracker with all jobs recently done, fsh - over 10k spent in the last 2 years - but I had to pay 21k for her! Get a pre-purchase inspection, look for money spent on non-essentials like 4-wheel alignment etc. Have a look on ninemeister's site (www.9mracing.co.uk) - there are a lot of tweaks you can do to a 964 - mine's running around 300bhp, and drives like nothing else I've ever driven - scooby / cosworths etc. Good Luck!
