I recently bought a 944S2 which came with a nice, nearly new looking pioneer head unit and cd changer.

First problem is that the reception on the radio is awful - like someone has snapped the aerial. Anyone got any advice where to start looking to fix this? (I assume the aerial is integrated into the front or rear screen since I can't find it ?!!)

Second "problem" is that I want to upgrade the speakers but they look to be unusual sizes. Anyone got any recommendations for speaker brands that make a size that fits, and which sound good loud?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,
Mark

Aerial is in the front screen.

You can get 6x9s in the rear speaker cubbies at an extreme pinch.

Standard speaker sizes in the front door areas.

Locate amp or CD changer in the boot underneath the carpet down each side - you will see a gap on each side that can take stuff slotted in vertically.

I like it. It's quite pokey once you learn how to drive it, but mine does feel a bit "floaty" at speed. Maybe the suspension / geometry needs an overhaul (or maybe I need to drive slower...) Stereo is the only real irritant.

The screen aerial is plugged into a socket on the right hand lower corner of the scuttle panel, lift the bonnet and you should find it around the osf lower corner of the screen. The socket leads into the car to a small amplifier, this has one black wire that is the power feed from the radio, it earths through the signal ground shielding. I think you will find the amp (black plastic case, around 50mm sq x 25mm thick) tucked under the dash on the right.
If you have no power, the amp is faulty or the screen wire is broken you will have no signal, OK?

Crap reception on the radio. Is it possible that the aerial amp is buggered as i get poor recieption even though i've just had a new CD fitted with an additional signal booster........????????
If so how do i test it & is there a replacement available or do i have to fit an aftermarket aerial.Halfords do one that sticks to the top inside of the screen but it's not ideally what i wanted....

Hmm. This sounds like a common theme, cos I get terrible radio reception in my S2 too. Someone with a job lot of amps could make quite a killing.
I'm 3 months into S2 ownership BTW and loving every minute of it... apart from the radio
