Ideas for Daz etc...

Much as a power increase is a good idea I'm just about to extend the warranty on my car. Therefore any mods will have to wait another two years.
That guy has clearly spent an awful lot of money modifying his vehicle. Dunno if I'd do the spoiler/styling mods, but the power upgrade, brakes and alloys have merit.

Daz,
I take it you are buying a 2 year warranty? Is it £820 a year on a Turbo like my Boxster S, or is it loads more? Before they will sell the warranty to you, do they inspect the car first to check the engine hadn't blown up BEFORE you bought the warranty?
I've been quoted £1630 to extend the inital warranty cover for two years, with the same level of cover I currently enjoy, ie european cover etc. On the basis of a few turbos developing oil leak problems and my doing Nurburg trips and Bruntingthorpe blasts I take the view it's best to be covered.
I was told if I don't extend the cover as above, retrospective cover can be started at a later date but it is less comprehensive and more expensive.
I don't know if the car is checked prior to issuing a warranty policy but it is booked in for it's two year anniversary service plus any warranty gripes at the beginning of april. I expect Porsche to be contacting me some time in march, I've already given the OPC verbal instruction that I wish to take the extended warranty out.

I extended mine for extra 2 years (as did my mate Henry). It is same £860 per year for any 996 irrespective of model, which is quite a bargain for Turbos and a real steal for my GT2.
If you extend before the existing one expires they don't even need to see the car, since they would be liable for any repairs anyway. They usually like to do the 2 yr service and fix any bits anyway and extend at the same time.
Don - the Warranty Link extension (the better and cheaper warranty as it's an extension of the factory one)) can only be purchased for 1 or 2 years, but if you purchase the 1 yr option the next extension is not Warranty Link, but a lower spec of warranty. Be careful to consult the dealer and consider when you extend, if you are thinking of keeping the car the 2 yr extension is better.

as I reported in this thread back in Oct, my local OPC called me in for an e/o warranty check 1 month prior to it ending , to find small oil leak caused by a porous block - engine was completely stripped and rebuilt - needless to say it was all fixed under warranty....about £10k-£12k worth of work. A FOC extension to the warranty period was offered for my 'inconvienance' & to restore my faith in the Marque !!!..... so the unthinkable does happen.
