Hi Guys,

New here since I have never owned a Porsche before but hoping to very soon!

My question is this, I am looking to purchase LHD turbo, early 996 turbo since I would like to pick one up for 50k or there abouts.

Is it worth me shopping abroad for one and then importing it, or is the saving(?) I would make over there along with import costs not really gonna worth the trouble?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated....

Thanks,
Rich.

Depends on when the car came into UK and what the sellers aspirations are. 2 years ago the £ vs Euro was strong but recently it has been weak. However the £ has moved in the right direction by around 4.5% so buying now in Europe may acually be favourable.

Thanks guys.

So if I was to get one of Europe can anyone suggest some dealerships etc to purchase from? I have been searching the web and not getting a lot of results for dealerships in Europe.

Maybe even some kind of German or French "Autotrader" would be ideal!!

Cheers
Rich.

PS. Big difference with the 996 X50 pack or not worth the search for one??

Lots more torque in the X50 + it has the GT2 turbos / intercoolers (they say - but I've neber taken the car apart to check!).

Worth it if you can find a nice example. As it'll be second hand you won't have the initial depreciation to deal with and my OPC has told me that at re-sale there is a big demand for X50 pack turbos - They've already tried to buy mine back from me

Thanks for that Site ... Lots of examples there. Looks like I can pick one up for as little as 45 UKP! and not with crazy millage or anything.

Is there any costs involved with importing back to the UK and registering the car as a UK car? maybe import duty or something like that?

I am aware of that the tax needs to be paid over there if it has not allready (but being a second hand car I am hopeing that will have been taken car of) saying that I assume there would be no UK VAT to pay on the car?

hmmm, also thinking about the who warrenty thing, if I was but a UK LHD car I would expect to get some kind of warrenty, gonna be a bit hard to take the car back to Germany for example to get something fixed!

Cheers,
Rich

Rich

Do a forum search on importing cars from germany; it has been discussed before.
