It may change gear in 10 nanoseconds but it adds a second on the 0 - 60!

What's the problem ? Drive what you like ! If we all agreed ????

For me, its got nothing to do with the speed of gear change, i couldnt give a monkies if its 100x quicker than I can change..

its ALL to do with the control..

...its about extracting every last ounce of pleasure from my motorvehicle..

Or at least, thats what owning a porsche used to be about..

its just a 'shame' they make such great every day cars...

...'pleasure' is very subjective. Who are you to say that a tip owner doesn't 'enjoy' their car every little bit as much as you do?

You need to grow up and try to be less arrogant - you seem to feel that tip owners somehow don't deserve to own a Porsche. Humility and tolerance are wonderful attributes. You should try them sometimes.

Yes Dear..

As I have previous mentioned, I drive a Tip..

you need to calm down, and not take it so personally..

As I already intimated, tip Porsche is a wonderful car, its a testament to Porsches engineering that they can turn a raw sports car, into a capable daily commuter, whilst retaining the majority of its racing pedigree.

So you don't understand, my point was simple.

The question posed was which would you choose, Manual or Tip, I answered.

Your opinion may well be different to mine, or it may be the same, and your just choosing to interpret it differently, regardless.. my OPINION is, the Tip, whilst a wonderful addition to the Porsche Range, ISN'T ALL the sports car that the manual is.

it might be 95% of the car, with the added bonus of being an absolute pleasure for commutes,, BUT, it ISN'T a level peg for those seeking the Raw feeling of the Porsche of old.

I considered, given the question was asked, that maybe the person was after some opinions from owners, So, I gave my opinion.

I am NOT trying to decide which is the BEST Porsche, as obviously that's subjective, all I am doing is saying which I would choose, and WHY.

Enjoy

I have mellowed, been away from Glasgow too long.

The roads in Shropshire are better, less "presence" if you know what I mean.

As I said before I'm new to Porsche (ownership) and PH but have enjoyed this "thread". Nice to hear opinions from piston heads who can still be passionate about driving .

Sorry to go off topic folks but I'm a novice !

my sense of humour is in fine fettle thx. Not so sure about Argonaut, that's all. I expected him to be rather more thick-skinned after a comment like that, especially as Jamie's comments were just strong opinions.

Had a boxster S manual 6spd

Now have a Boxster S tip 5 spd

Both very nice cars.

Being very critical, diving hard the car really misses the extra ratio, the gearing of the Tip is a bit too wide changing at the red line the revs fall a bit too far down the power band, with the manual's ratios it was easy to kep the car boiling along above 4500 rpm.

The box is quite lazy needs a good poke to get it to change down or kickdown, and changes up early even with fairly firm throttle pressure. It slurs worse than Oliver Reed.

However the manual is a pain for my wife to drive in high heels so if it's a choice between sexy footwear with the tip or 6 sp manual, the tip wins everytime

At the end of the day, I totally agree,

if tiptronic floats your boat, then so be it, I specifically chose Tiptronic on my present car...

A Porsche is a wonderful piece of kit, and we should and will all enjoy owning them.

(eek, this mellowness is catching)

I was glad I owned mine, and look forward to my next porsche, be it the GT3 in jan, or a Turbo at some point..

I wouldnt say it changed my world, but I wouldnt take the time back either..

Its just another experince to draw upon

to you all, Tiptronic or Manual.

I chose the Tip. The manual is more of a 'drivers' option, but at the end of the day, for me, I just can't face the manual in traffic - it would take the enjoyment out of 90% of the driving.

Someone said the Tip adds a second to the 0-60. Yes and no. The primary reason is becuase the Manual time is achieved by short shifting the geaarbox. Do that a few times and you will be back at the OPC getting a new box fitted.

Fast (but not short) shifting a manual box compared with a tip is likely to yield very similar times.

I do agree the manual gives more control, but the Tip is a much better everyday option IMHO. I couldn't decide between the two, and went for the Tip. 90% if the time I am pleased with my decision, 10% not. I made the right decision for myself, otherwise with a manual this would be reversed!
