Time to renew insurance and frustratinlgly Norton now only offer track day cover for PCGB days. I'm sure these days are great but I need more flexibility.

Anyone got any other suggestions - I have searched previous threads and found Liverpool and Victoria and Sunnhill crop up bit.

Any other suggestions

thanks

IIRC Sunnhill only covered TVRs. Liverpool Victoria may, AON do, Carole Nash (AXA policy) do. Performance Marque also do PCGB only cover.

To be honest, these are the only ones out of about 50 insurers I tried and it is a real problem getting track cover as part of a main policy. PCGB only cover is actually very good, as 95% refuse any track cover at all.

If none of the above work out and you want more flexibility, simply insure event per event through Egger Lawson (Competition Car Insurance). These guys cover about 10k of vehicle for 100 GBP of premium, specifically for track use.

Often the cheapest time on track is by sharing a car that is provided and insured by a trackday company, say Bookatrack. For eg two people could share a Bookatrack Caterham and have a session of instruction on a trackday for about 350 GBP each. This often works out much cheaper than insuring and using your own car, then paying for the trackday and fuel, brakes, tyres, other wear and tear etc.

Liverpool Victoria if you are over 30 cover with no increase in premium mods that dont effect engine internals ie chips and exhausts and track days.

thanks chaps - it is certainly getting harder- Norton have been great for the last 5 years but alas no more.

The idea of renting a car for track days had crossed my mind and probably is cost effective - it just seems a lot if you do 5 days a year or so. My 944 did this maqny last year without putting a spanner on it!cheers

Liverpool Victoria was the ONLY company I have found that will cover mods AND track day cover.

Others are out there, Neil. But they are rare as hens' teeth. I know that Carole Nash uses an AXA policy that allows mods and track cover (at least it does for some PHers), but remember that existing customers may be allowed special dispensations when the trackday cover small print changes at renewal, plus it depends which underwriter/policy is being used.

Good to know that you have found Liverpool Victoria helpful. I just wouldn't emphasis the ONLY as I have not found this to be the case. Luckily!

Do PCGB track days in the Porker, and hire a Caterham from Bookatrack for other days, or drive VERY carefully.
With the excesses involved, I don't think there is much point in paying for additional cover from someone like Eggar Lawson, the numbers just didn't add up for me.

Egger Lawson were after 170 quid from me for about 12k cover with a grand excess. Can't say I was that enamoured...

Beggars, choosers...

As has been mentioned, arguably the least hassle is to drive someone else's fully insured and prepared car on track and split the cost between two people.

Or stick to the club days... a bit more expensive than normal, but well run.

I asked the same question in the griff forum couple of weeks ago. Might be some names for you to try from that thread.
The most common were Sunninghill and Peart I think.

Here is the thread
www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=85125&f=9&h=0

I ended up getting the best quote without track day cover so I'll be buying my track cover seperately.

As mentioned, I believe Sunnighill is TVR only - they were very accommodating until I said I had a proper ca... I mean a porsche.

Thanks all,

LV indeed came up trumps 575 unlimted milage and all track day cover - just 130 more than my heritage cover with 2000 miles and the other 'classic' limitations

I've got the GT3 covered with NU Club, via a chap called Chris Wilkins who does a lot of the GT3 community. Track days are an extra 100 a time if your car is valued below 75000 or 150 if above.

Will dig out contact info if anybody interested.

Was looking at doing this myself so I just called LV. They effectively told me they don't do track day cover. I quote "we'll cover you to drive to the track (as a spectator), but certainly not to actually drive round it". Errr... am i missing something?

The chap at LV read me out a letter he said he had been issued with regarding trackdays. Essentially so long as there is no timing, racing etc they they were happy to take it on. The bloke i dealt with was George on exn 5538
