A friend of mine has sold his Ferrari 308 and is looking for a 993. He has a budget of £30k, and wants a C2 coupe with manual gearbox in silver, blue or black, excellent condition, low miles, etc, preferably within a couple of hours of Winchester.

I assume that this budget is sensible. Do you have any recommended dealers? And is anyone here thinking of selling?

I tried to convince him that a 964RS would be ideal, didn't work though...

Try RSJSportscars in Slough - I bought my 993 from them in January and they had a lot to choose from. Nice people to deal with and a very good aftersales service. Well worth a look at their internet site.

Has this car not been on sale for quite a while, and at a higher price? Has anyone seen this car?

Yes, it has been around for a while.

I have had a quick look and it seems nice, but I'm no expert. Other people who have seen it (like ian dorrian on these forums) reckon it looked very tidy.

It has not sold - at a guess - because people are worried about the running costs of a high mileage Turbo 4. At 70k miles it has plenty of life left, but the turbos aren't cheap and an engine rebuild would hurt etc.

I'm sure Joel will be along with a two word upper case reply to fill us all in, eh?

I was sorely tempted to buy this car as it was basically a minter and had new tyres etc. Interior was spotless, moreso than you would get with a good valet. Paintwork was very tidy too, essentially it had been fastidiously looked after.

I ummed and ahhed for a bit and decided the miles would be too much for me to bear, as I needed a daily driver which my wife would occasionally use without ending up in a hedge backwards.

If you want a journo's opinion, it was reviewed in a recent 911 and Porsche World in one of their trips around the dealers. If you can't find it, it basically said it was a good buy even when advertised at a much higher price.

After a little investigation on things which might need attention closer to the magic 100k mile mark (which I would definitely reach), it became plainer than a Bulgarian pin-up that there is no such thing as a cheap RHD 993 TT. A pair of recon turbos at a grand a pop was just the tip of the iceberg.

IMHO, Joel is giving someone a once in lifetime opportunity to get on the TT ladder at a very low price point, but from an absolute ownership perspective only. If you want it to stay perfect, I personally would keep a few grand back from an altogether more sensible budget of 42-45K to cover what you will ultimately need to spend to keep it perfect.

Don't get me wrong, the car is good, but it needs to be a low mile Sunday car only for the next few years or else the current residual value is likely to fade faster than a red dralon sofa in direct sunlight.

A little friendly advice with the caveat that you should always buy the best example of a 993 you can afford, made me realise that a low mile 993 C4S with all the toys would be a better proposition for my needs, which I duly purchased at a similar price to the TT.

This was logically the right decision for me, but my heart still wants the turbo.

Your call.

We sold it today. As the last 3 or 4 chaps posting on this thread have seen it and observed,it was really mint, full history etc.We have had it for 5 months to be honest which really surprised me considering how mint it really was.You cant get 993's in this condition regardless of what the mileage is.Anyway i bought it as i thought that at £40000 it would be the cheapest 993 turbo in the country and enable someone to get into 993 turbo ownership which is rarely acheivable under £45000.20 people saw it and all said its perfect,i'd buy it but the miles scare me.Yet we sell non turbo 993's with 70k on them every day.
Anyway, only writing this as we sold it today for £38250.Bloke walked in saw a bargain and bought it.As ian dorien will tell u ,the one we had at £47250 at 44000 miles didnt have quite as clean bodywork but having just 44000 miles meant someone happily paid £47250.Obviously mileage sensitive cars are 993 turbo's.

Any cricket fans out there ?
Englands results in the windies are a far cry from the days of gatting being sent home in small pieces in the 90's !!
