I'm with L&V and am in the CSMA.

Please, please, please dont start having accidents and making claims with them If they start to get a few then I am sure their current amicable position will change.

I have seen their name bandied around quite a few forums giving really good quates and I suspect they are trying to 'grow' their business in this sector. This is good for us (until we start smacking up our cars, at which point they will hightail it outta here )

Using the info from this thread, I just got a quote from Liverpool & Victoria for my just purchased 993TT of £573 fully comp with £400 excess.
Sounds very good and I will probably use them.

Just spoke to LV who said unless the car was a 996 Carrera 4 then they can't help me. I said the car is based on the GT3 model but the lady said they don't have a GT3 on their list so can't insure it...Oh well, worth a try though.

Tony have you tried contacting Roock in Atlanta?

They must have knowledge of who will insure their cars in the UK?

page 1 of the LV site where the conditions are posted asks you to agree to "no performance enhancement modifications".
they may give the impression over the phone that they are indifferent to modification, but why would they have this under conditions?
I would imagine an insurance company would get out of paying a claim if they felt they had a justifiable reason.

Hi Tony, we met recently at Bruntingthorpe (and South Mimms beforehand).

When I got my Maserati recently I got a quote from LV and they were pretty damn competitive but ultimately the best deal for me at least came by going through a broker, A-Plan.

Their Beaconsfield branch has a couple of guys who specialise in supercars and out of the ordinary stuff who were super-helpful. I can't actually remember the underwriter they put me with, but the deal they got me was a fair bit better than anyone else including LV. They claimed it was because they had contacts and track record with underwriters that got them special deals an end-customer could not get direct.

May be worth giving them a try for the Roock. Haven't got their numbers to hand but I'm sure Google will turn it up.

Cheers for all your help boys.

I've left a message for Roock USA to call me back, cheers Plotloss. I didn't try them before as there's no distribution in the UK and when I spoke to Mr. Roock the other day in Germany he didn't know of any.

Chris, nice one fella, even though A-plan couldn't help me, they've given me two people to contact who may be able to help out.

Mark Abbott of Cheam Insurance Brokers is very good at all HNW from house to car they sell a chubb policy that insures you to drive any car with owners permission and covers you fully comp.
Marsh private cliant are also OK (Used to run porsche insurace scheme may still?) again not cheep but being a HNW broker they should help.

I've mangaged to get a company to insure the car but only once it's in the country and registered with the DVLA and given UK plates.

Does anyone know how to get a car insured once purchased and brought over before given UK plates?

Anyone imported a vehicle before and been in this situation?

Won't your insurers insure the car using the chassis number? Domster may be able to advise I know he has been involved in bringing one or two cars in from europe in the past.

Thanks DAZ, I'll try that, someone else has just told me that too.

How about if it's transported over? Insurance should be covered by the transportation company whilst in transit, then straight to DVLA to get registered.

Just spoke to L&V -they will only offer trackday cover to CSMA members. Is this true???

AON have gone up from £400 to £700 this year, track day cover at 0.1% of value of car + tax and excess upto 10% of value of car. 3000 mile limit, of which I did 2800 last year...... Will cover ANY track day provider though.

Eggar Lawson want £100 per £10K value of car!!!

Any other suggestions??

L&V won't cover 'imports'. If the car has already been driven in another country then they class it as an import. If it's just purchased new from another country, then for some bizarre reason, they are happy to quote. They don't mind cages, etc, & no tracker. Got a really good quote from them last week for a 964RS then phoned back to confirm the details, and was told that they wouldn't cover LHD 'imports' ?!

Slightly surprised at the lack of vehicle security information I had to provide....

AON, although more expensive seem to be the way forward... & as Melv says will cover t/days.

This is what I was told after I had taken out the policy. They seem to have made a recent change in policy in this direction, which would explain why some people with older policies have trackday cover. Would be interesting to see how they fare at renewal time.

Melv,
Which broker was that? Was it a classic policy?

Daz,
Which broker do you use? Do they cover track days for nowt?
Also what is csma, is it this bunch of folks wanting 17 quid a year?
www.csma.uk.com/
Doesn't sound like much if you can get free track day cover on your car insurance.
