Exactly what I did, but did myself, put a layer of protection on the car, helps with washing as well as looking good

Mine waxed the same weekend I got it

Looks fantastic Saj. Very hard to keep black looking good at this time of year. Very satisfying when it comes up that great though.

Which wax did you use?

That was taken back in early May on a wet day and the wax was Zymol Concours, the wax took an hour or so to apply but the prep work was about 5 hours!!!

Since then early October have applied GTechniq Exo fingers crossed that will see me through to Spring, car does obviously get a wash every other week, and I give it a Quick detailer after the wash Zymol Field Glaze.

Well the 3 series just left - private sale, so that was nice rather than a trader making money out of it.

Cayenne should be ready to collect next Friday!

Have a detailer getting it waxed up the following Monday. He's in therapy about non metallic black hehe
Eh? Waxing a brand new car?
Yup, protection detail. In addition most new cars come with plenty of marks, swirls and light marks. This gets it perfect and protected, making it easier to look after and stopping crap sticking to it.

It is done by someone who knows what they are doing, and unlike me, who has no patience. In addition it is cheaper than most of the noddy paint protection systems offered which are both ste and applied by the YTS bloke in the wash department.

More than just a wash and leather then - Out of interest what was the approximate breakdown of the 5 hours?

Thanks for the info. I know of Zymol but never heard of their Field Glaze. Must give it a try.

Did not time it but I think it was something like

1 Hour Snowfoam & wash

2 Hours to thoroughly clean wheels, and seal them with Gtechniq

1 Hour to clean and seal windscreen again using Gtechniq

1 hour Zymol HD Cleanse, car did not have any swirls or marring so no need for machining

Then the wax Zymol Concours

PS never use a leather to dry.

Will one day write up on my anal routine for cleaning, a lot will laugh, I find it therapeutic

Ah, I see. Being old school, I remember reading somewhere that you shouldn't wax new car paint for 3 - 6 months. Things have moved on then I guess.

Wax just protects - I suspect it may have been not to POLISH... Modern water based paints are pretty soft these days, but they are protected by a clear coat as I understand it.

Thanks for the info Saj.

Why never use a leather to dry off a car? What do use as an alternative?

I look forward to reading your routine.

Winston Churchill used to find bricklaying therapeutic, others find some therapy in decorating or gardening, but for me it's also cleaning the cars.

Which windscreen products have you found work best and Dd you buy your Zymol and Gtechniq products online or from Elite?
Thanks again

They invariably result in scratching and smearing, no matter how careful you are. Microfibre towel or similar. The pro's just place on and lift off....

This is the chap who is prep'ing our car:

Moving on from our OCD's (!). We now have a reg and it looks confirmed for Friday AM collection.

Gave up with leathers years ago always leaves a layer of water over the clear coat, on previous car Grey used Microfibre towels, on black after washing i fill with filtered water and pour this over the car with a watering can, not with the sprinkler, remove this so its an open spout, this normally gets 80% of the water to sheet off, the remainder I go round with a 4HP air blower blowing water out shuts, lights etc

I look forward to reading your routine. Will come with images over time!!

It helps when kids help out , 1 of my kids does and enjoys it too!

Gtechniq but apply very little, I had this on my old X5 and put a little too much on, now perfect and used very little

Elite do not sell Zymol so online I get mine, Gtehcniq I got ages ago, from Gtechniq I think

Thanks again

Your welcome saj

I never use a leather regardless of car colour.

I have a tank that eliminates muck from the water (passing the final rinse through it and using a hose) and no streaks are left as the car dries either on the paint or glass.

Thanks for the link. When you pick up your car check that all the park assist sensors work as they should. Some excess Swissvax wax, which wasnt visible, had been left on one of my sensors and it didn't function properly. Have a fun day - hopefully it will be a dry day.

" Gtechniq but apply very little "

Saj - is it the Gtechniq Clear vision you use - they have 3 glass products in their range.

Last question - promise!

Ask as many as you want this is what forums are for

I use G1 this is the sealant, they do a polish which you use first to remove dirt etc, there are some youtube videos of application worth watching, but remember 2 drops go a long way, and you go over the windscreen 3 times over a 30 mins period
