Well spent the day in it today (not at the wheel!!!), fiddled with every setting and switch.

Continuees to impress with depth of attention to detail and engineering quality everywhere. Like the fact there is a second sun visor under the main one so you can swing the main one to the side and still have another for straight ahead - never seen that before.

Despite "exploring the performance", we have averaged 36mpg today. I'd say the engine, whilst smooth isnt quite as smooth or nice sounding as the BM engine in my 6.

Pleased to see the all season are marked up as M+S. Michelins I think. Should deal with pretty much anything the UK weather can chuck at us I assume.

Anyone else here got experience of the N rated All seasons in snowy conditions?

Bugger. Signed up for new Cayenne Diesel S. Manufacturing starts in January 2013, no OPC has allocation yet, but have been told 300 units will be built next year for the UK. No confirmed build slots until December, but told to come back around June time !"

Worth checking that you actually need the 'S'.

No doubt it will have awesome torque and power, but the 3.0d is pretty much the perfect blend of smooth, performance and economy for most.

The Cayenne is a luxury SUV, not a sports car.

Paul from Shine-on is now here doing his thing with the Cayenne.

Simply shocking how bad the paint on a new car looks under one of his spotlights, I was amazed!

pics to follow....

Yup. Just checked again. 'S' defo needed. Had a 3.0 loaner from OPC last week, it defo needed another 200NM of torque to crispen it up !driving

I would advise to get some good washing & more importantly drying tips, as these are the causes of marks, marring, fine scratches etc

On the case. I hadnt touched it yet!

It's having a nice coat of this. Can't believe how much better it looks - and it was pretty good to start with!

Much that I'd love to have that extra torque hurling me down the road, I know deep down that the times I'd get to use it would be few and far between.

Like you say, the V6 Diesel covers most, if not all bases, and when (if) the BiTDI finally shows its face - there'll be no arguement.

I think buying the S is a no brainer, circa 10k more for 130bhp+ and all that torque...good value I feel.

For those who think spending £500 on a YTS student applying £20 of Superguard product, here is the result of a professional working from 8:30am to 5:30pm for £350. Slightly better value in my VHO. not only is every mark swirl, and polish mark gone, the paint is protected from crap for a while too.

2 before

3 after

Ran out of daylight to do any proper shots, but it is looking a million dollars.

Peak power figures on a diesel are just so those who used to get the short school bus can get all top trumps. Nothing except noise happens on the 3.0L above 4K RPM. In the 2-3K range the Diesel S has 50% more torque than the 3.0. 50% increase for 20% overall cost uplift ? Best value in the Porsche range. The 991 lot would be pleased with such a modest cost for such a power gain.

Completely agree, tremendous value.... My diesel S should arrive feb/mar. Perfect complement to my 997 turbo s.

As an only car, or a main car, I agree the Diesel S is sensational. We just didnt have the budget, and already have the 640d, and a V8 TVR for making noise and going fast.

Only done a few miles in the Diesel Cayenne so far, but I'd say it was "plenty" in the real world. The S of course sounds better, and goes better, but of course will be using more juice; neither are a bad choice, just horses for courses.

Has anyone specced the pre-heater and how well does it work using the fob. At what range can it work?

IMO the best option you can spec on the Cayenne. Works brilliantly and gets used from Oct to April - and often in between. Realistic range, with the fob, is about 100m. However, there is also a button on the console to switch it on when parked. Takes a couple of minutes to heat the car up to a cosy temperature. Very clever.
