Has anyone remapped a Boxster before?
Discussion
After listening to a friend of mine (Audi fanboy) endlessly rattling on about remapping his diesel VAG (a convertible too; dear oh dear...), I was wondering whether anyone had ever done this to a Boxster (which is what I own)? I have no intention of doing this myself but I’ve never come across anyone doing it before either. I'd certainly think the Boxster chassis could easily take another 50 horses or so.

Most ECUs can be re-mapped, I have had some excellent results on my bikes with air filter, exhaust, dyno and re-map together. Not neccesarily huge power increases, but smoother power curves and better throttle response. A lot will depend on what elements of the ECU are actually changed as well, its a bit of a myth that it is completely changed, there are various levels and options within the process, I always got an additional component (PowerCommander) to sit between the original ECU and engine, but that may not be an option for the Boxster.
There may be some benefit to a re-map, but normally in conjunction with other work, which may make the whole process nugatory.
I'm sure someone on here will have some in-depth technical knowledge of every aspect of the procedure, and others will berate you for even considering it...

Waste of money on any NA car, turbo petrol/diesel yes, NA no. That's why you've never heard of a Boxster being remapped.
In terms of power gains you are right, but otherwise it can smoothen quite an unperfect power curve, make throttle more repsonsive, rev more freely, etc. They do it for Boxsters & Caymans and people seem to be very happy afterwards (I have no personal experience though).Dont write off remaps on NA cars so easily.
Porsche are well known for limiting power to make their range 'make sense'. The 986 boxster 3.2 had 260 bhp and then when the 987 3.2 hit the showrooms it had 280. And yes they have the same engine.
When you consider these cars are sold world wide and that petrol quality varies massively why should we not take advantage of our good quality UK 99 RON fuel and remap our NA cars?

A remap on a standard setup can work some magic and optimise throttle response, fuelling etc beyond the factory "fits all markets" settings", either for power or fuel economy. If work is done on changing the air filter, exhaust and/or manifolds which frees up breathing, then definitely yes. After all, it is the modern equivalent (which I can't do on my Boxster, but can on my old MGA) of mucking around with distributor bob weights and springs, and SU needles and jets.....

I have a 3.2 boxster s which has been remapped.
it raises the rev limit and makes a better drive more responsive and no flat spots.
im running standard cats and exhausts however it does have a K&N panel filter and hardpipe conversion
There was also a mild change in the sound of the car during acceleration
Its a lot of money but im happy with the results

you can get 340BHp from a mapped 3.4 Boxster no problem if you add a bigger throttle body and a much better power curve.
well worth it.
bit more details on how, where and cost please well worth it.
And do you know if this or similar works on the earlier 3.2 engines in the 986S - TIA?
Hi fellow Porsche peeps.. I am a new boy here and purchesed a Boxter 2009 manual just before Xmas 2012. I used to have a Golf GT TDi manual. I had it remapped and it was a rocket. More power through the gears, more torque and much better fuel economy. I bought my wife an Evoque Dynamic and didn't really fancy keeping the Golf so I bought the Boxter.. Loved it but wasn't happy and wish I bought what I wanted in the first place which was a Boxter S. So, after 7 weeks in the Boxter I found myself in a 2010 Boxter S with PDK.. Wow. Happy and excited. I bought it from a Porsche dealer and it came with 2 years warranty. But me being me I had it remapped yesterday. Rating before was 309 bhp and now it's 345.5 bhp. It's sound nicer, more power through the gears and mid range it's a rocket. Feels smoother.. Maybe it's all in my head but it makes me smile. Next will be the cat's. I want to get it as close to 400 bhp as possible. I have no idea why but just excited at the thought of it. Will put 5mm spacers and maybe lower springs.
I hope I haven't started on the wrong foot with you all. Thoughts and advice would be appreciated

Where have you had this done on your Boxster S?? Sounds a good increase! I hope I haven't started on the wrong foot with you all. Thoughts and advice would be appreciated
I have a 2011 Boxster s and I had a cargraphic plenum and throttle body and ecu fitted by tech 9, there was a noticeable improvement in performance, response and intake noise. I've now had a cargraphic manifold set with 200 cell cats fitted and had the factory sports exhaust removed and a cargraphic sports exhuast fitted and the car is noticeably quicker again, even at low revs, which I didn't expect. Very happy.

Sounds really impressive and an unusually large gain on just a remap without mods to get better breathing. Do tell more.I hope I haven't started on the wrong foot with you all. Thoughts and advice would be appreciated

Did you have the car on a dyno to verfy the numbers you state here, or are the power increase the tuners claim?I hope I haven't started on the wrong foot with you all. Thoughts and advice would be appreciated
