Hi folks,

Been lurking for the last couple of months enjoying the banter.

Just sold my Westfield and a 1996 993 Targa is to take its space in the garage.

Feel really happy with the car I'm getting as it is a 1 owner vehicle with 42k and FPSH.

Silver in colour with AC, trip comp, full leather, fixed rear wing (RS aerokit?) and RS front spolier.

The 993 had to compete with his 360 Modena and M5 and was soon to be joined by the V10 M5 and a DB9.

Best part is I am paying a price that should allow at least a couple of years depreciation free motoring.

Welcome to the Sty John

Westfield? Wow - I bet this is going to be quite a change for you! What made you choose a 993?

P.S. would love the indulgence of owning a caterfield, but alas has no garage and only one parking space

Congratulations - hope the car lives up to your expectations. Re. depreciation they seem to be relatively few and far between and sell quickly, so it should hold its value pretty well.

I was also considering a 993 Targa as I think the concept is great - it's obviously leagues ahead of the previous generations of targa with the leaky lift out panels. Finally decided against it when I discovered that they start with a convertible then add the targa roof - this (to my understanding at least!) implies increased weight and reduced chassis rigidity, so went hunting for a steel roof with sunroof instead.

Anyway, have fun and happy motoring.

I know it's not very 'british' but what price?
I think it's important to keep in touch with the porsche market by letting other enthusiasts know what kind of cash had to be parted with for different cars.
Am i alone here or just to brash?

I wasn't really looking for a 911, it sort off happened by chance. The bloke selling it is a customer of mine and an obvious petrol head. We got talking about cars and he was saying he needed to make space for the cars he had on order and the 911 was hardly being used. He didn't want to sell it to the trade and didn't want to sell it privately and have countless time wasters. I had a look at the car and a few others to compare and thought it was right for me and the wife. She didn't really enjoy the Westfield, wonder why?

I also wanted to own at one time in my life the iconic 911 and felt the 993 model being the last incarnation of the air-cooled type was the one to have.

The targa may not have been my first choice but a late 96 RHD 993 with 43k miles, 1 owner for £25k was a deal too good to miss I felt, and being Scottish it felt just right

Sounds like a good deal - a dealer would have been looking for at least 29 to 32k at a guess.

Sounds like an amazing deal! Last one I see was £30K-ish.

Well done you.

That was the conclusion I came to. I couldn't find many sub 50k examples for less than £33k with the odd example being advertised for over £35k which IMO is too expensive.

Ok sure it ain't a C2 coupe but still can't grumble at the deal I have got

Don't think I'll lose my shirt on this one.

I paid quite a lot more for mine, John, but my reasons for buying were the same. It's a great car and that open roof makes for really enjoyable touring. Well done for getting such a special car at that price!
I understood that the extra weight of the targa roof was offset by the lighter magnesium wheels, which are a 'special' on Targas. I don't know how true that is, but they're certainly nice looking.
I had mine out for a longish trip around 'darkest Kent' yesterday afternoon, enjoying sunshine and some delightfully empty, twisty roads. Great fun! I was giving an old friend an outing because he's been having a bad time with hospitals and operations and can't drive himself at the moment. If he enjoyed the run as much as me, it will have done him some good - it certainly made my day!

John, you paid way over the odds - to stem the depreciation you're going to suffer, I am willing to take it off your hands for £20k tomorrow - yes I know that this may be a mistake but I am nothing if not a philanthropist and having just won £6.5m according to an e-mail I received this morning, I figure I can afford to splash out now.

Alternatively I do have a 912 for sale if you'd like a coupe. The 912 was a rare model and built to homologate the 956 for F1 in 1997. As such it usually attracts a major premium but I would like to see you realise your dream and as such would be willing to do a straight swap.

Let me know

John, an amazing deal at that price, well done!

I dont remember a RHD 993 C2 Targa being advertised at anything less than £30K and that had higher miles if I remember. Your deal must be the best one I have read lately, please let us all know how you did it, I might be tempted to cash mine in and buy again!

Let us know how it works out...

You lucky, lucky bugger !!

£25k for a car like that with low miles like that is a steal !!

You will have years of fantastic and cheap motoring. Reckon on being able to get what you paid for it after a year or two - cheap motoring indeed.

Well done. Enjoy it !

Hey Rubystone,

Thanks for your efforts to put me back on the straight and narrow ;D

Let me potter around in my Targa for a couple of weeks to see if the two of us gel, if not I may well take you up on your offer....

BTW, I also won £6.5m according to an email I received this morning as well. On reflection maybe I can just about stomach the dramatic collapse in value my 993 will suffer.

Oh bo**cks been rumbled

Just been lucky and in the right place at the right time doing business with him. I know this was a opportunity not to be missed.
Even the current owner knows it is a good deal.
