Lonman busted for speeding??
Discussion
Isn't Lonmans real name Rob Kenworthy? If so there is an article is 'The Sun' today about a Rob Kenworthy and a bunch of friends, all is Porsches and Ferrari's who were busted for speeding on the way to the F1 GP this weekend. They were caught doing 156mph are are currently in jail pending possible charges of dangerous driving, racing on public roads and obviously speeding. They also face having their cars confiscated!!
Anybody confirm this??
Just for information, Lonman is the guy driving the silver 996GT2 in the Gumball 2003 across America.

Do any of the articles refer to the Gumball Rally?
The Sun one i was emailed (like i would be on that site! ) had no mention of the Gumball.
Do they keep their heads in the sand... Rob got arrested probably about a dozen times last year... no coverage... pathetic reporting really.

I live and work in Barcelona and 5 persons that were racing the GUMBALL 3000 were arrested during the race stage that led to the GP... They were caught because several drivers on the highway phoned the police saying they had just been overtaken by maniacs doing warp speeds!
Not sure what they can face but since the last elections there´s a fury here in Catalonya to make traffic/speed laws thougher, including criminal prosecusion of speeds such as 250kph...

Why the support? These speeds are unacceptable if people were driven to calling the police to report their driving. Let's face it, the Spanish don't exactly stick to the limits themselves and I would have to draw the conclusion that the Gumballers were going rather too rapidly for the situation if this happened.
Silly speeds on empty roads or tracks please.

Spanish roads are empty. Thats why there is support.
The road that leads to the GP circuit on the race morning is not empty, I can asure you that! In fact it all started because some car fan on the highway toll noticed all the cars passing by and decided to just stop there and start taping it! Then you have another guy (not on the race) with an RX-7 and a camera, doing +-220kph and you see a Ferrari blasting by
Basically the highway was crowded and they were overtaking wherever there was a (small!) break.
All of this was on national tv news yesterday night. The guys were arrested and the cars apreended (Silver Modena Spider, couple of 996TT and an M3), presented to a judge and yesterday they were all released and given back their cars.

I've been on Barcelona's La Rhonda recently, as you know. Not much scope for 200 km/n + on that road until well clear of the city.
All for a bit of fun me but passing stationary vehicles at big speeds is a no-no 'cause you never know when one will break ranks and turn out in front of you.
