.. Planned for this weekend; can't wait! The current proposal is 1 x Tuscan and 1 x Chim from Nottingham to the Brecon Beacons, then from Carmarthen after lunch up the coastal road to Snowdonia and onwards to Caernarfon. Then North Wales on the Sunday and back via Chester in time for tea.

Will probably go through Betwys-y-coed but not sure about whether to bother with the Evo triangle, hear lots of stories of Subaru's appearing head on, on your side of the road with wide- eyed nutters behind the wheel - anyone any experiences on whether it's a 'must' or don't bother?

I've done the triangle a couple of times, it's good fun particularly the eastern leg. Luckily it's been relatively quiet both times.

Having said that you will be driving lots of arguably better roads, so I wouldn't worry about going out of your way to drive it.

Have a look at the thread on the "roads" forum here, some good information there.

One other thing to mention - I would avoid the main snowden roads / llanberis pass at weekends, very busy you will be lucky to break 40mph!

Evo triangle is worth a visit in my opinion, start on the western side and go clockwise.

If you're about the brecons on Sunday call in to the Harry Flatters rally. Some serious Tarmac cars as well as historics.

Black mountain pass is definitely worth a trip, fantastic road, bettered only by the scenery.

A4212 Bala to Trawsfynydd is worth a detour.

I live 2 mins from Trawsfynydd, always nice when I need to go the Bala way smile

Thanks for the tips and suggestions - had a great Saturday in the sunshine and a slightly damper Sunday! Nevertheless managed to get 570 miles covered and did the Brecons, Snowdonia and up to Caernarfon on the Saturday, plus the Llanberis pass at 8pm, which was, as mentioned above, 35 mph all the way but awesome scenery. Managed it again on the Sunday, plus the evo triangle which was great, especially the second north east leg through the forest but FFS, tourist coaches everywhere; had at least three on the two laps we did. Some cracking roads though and plenty of walkers nicely irritated by the ruin of quaint villages as we passed through biggrin
