Lovely car OP

I came from a Noble to a TVR (and a lotus in between) and I much prefer the TVR - the noble was awesomely fast but nowhere near as satisfying at low speed. The speed six is an incredible engine...when it works

Just to comment that my 2006 Tuscan has over 70k miles now.
There is a question mark against its engine, that being the half time bearing.

On it's original, unrebuilt engine?

I agree. Sounds ridiculous maybe but the noble is like a lighter, more analogue nissan gtr. It's so well honed that unless you drive it really hard you don't get that sense of excitement which weekend cars should be all about. The tuscan is exciting just starting the engine even if it wouldn't keep up on a twisty road.

Yes. smile
My Mk1 was rebuilt at 35k and 70k but the Mk2 is not making any worrying noises apart from the half time bearing.
We drive down to Spain/Portugal every year and she's been great.

How long rebuilt engines last interests me. If yours lasted 35k that's not too bad - would last me about 9 years smile

Surely a rebuild engine should last much longer than the original build spec on a speed six?

Powers have a 100k warranty limit which would suggest a much higher quality build?

The rebuild on my Mk1 was dome in 2003 at the factory and so with the same dodgy components.
The fact that both the original factory engine and the factory rebuilt lasted 35k each raised a sideways smile at the time.
The rebuild at 70k was by Str8six and along with throttle body upgrades, the engine was amazing from then on.

Excellent. In that case mine should last indefinitely.

Ok, picked my car up today and enjoyed a thrilling drive home acclimatising to it. So loud and angry - I love it.

Couple of newby(ish) questions if you'll permit me just this once:

1) Is it true I can trickle charge through the cigarette lighter? I didn't before.
2) On the Tuscan 2 is there a knack to the indicator? I find if I switch too hard nothing happens and too soft nothing happens. Seems to only cancel when it fancies too smile
3) I can't remember how reliable the fuel gauge is or when to think about refilling. How much does it hold?

That's it - I promise to use the search facility from now on!

Thanks folks.

Yes, works well for me using an accumate.

My self cancelling broke a long time ago and to be honest the whole thing works much better without it. I now treat is as i would do on the bike, if i've clicked it once then i need to click it again to cancel. It shouldn't be overly sensitive to moving the stalk too far/too little though so it sounds like the self cancel mechanism is playing up a bit and it's cancelling if you've moved the stalk too far.

3) I can't remember how reliable the fuel gauge is or when to think about refilling. How much does it hold?
Mine shows 54L when full, and reliability is ok(ish). Often i'll start a journey with say 39L, and it's go up to 41/42 or down as far as 36L within a few mins. If it's down under 20 then i fill up as a rule but i also reset my milometer so I know how far i've been. Mine a 4.3 and country road driving gets me around 20mpg smile

Thank you sir, much appreciated.

This rebuilt 4.0 S engine is so powerful, heaven knows what a 4.3 is like!
