Hi all

Can someone confirm what is behind the head unit? Is it a bundle of wires or is there a harness adapter type block that fits...

Cheers M

I've got an '04 'S' with original head unit (DAB receiver in boot).

The connecters to the unit is via a multi-pin plug....obviously there's a co-ax for FM aerial and a plug to connect DAB module.

Nick.

Thanks Nick, what I'm after is what adapter is needed to connect to a new head unit if anyone knows.

for example:

http://www.halfords.com/technology/car-audio/stere...

or whether it needs wiring in by hand

If you buy from Halfords - or a decent ICE specialist, they should be able to supply a recommended adaption harness for the head unit you buy. Guess you've got the original head unit - Pioneer? I'd make a note of the model id.

A word of caution though, there's not a lot of room in the rear of the 'radio pod' to take anything too bulky. You may have to crop and use in-line connectors to hook up with the multi-plug supplied with the new head unit. You should be able to download the wire codes/colours for your existing set from the internet?

Thanks, not looking at Halfords and ICE centers in Cambridge are surprisingly few and far between since the main one here closed.

Assumed space would be an issue so had been looking at non CD player versions, so I can Bluetooth from my phone music and radio.

Original head unit has gone and been replaced with an equally poor JVC unit, if there is connector blocks from the main loom then I guess it wont be unique to TVR, just a matter of working out what it is from.

Cheers Mark

Try to get the shortest chassis head unit you can, they can be a bugger to seat home. I bought a multiplug adapter from Halfords to convert the loom with bullets. These days you can pick up a non-CD head unit with BT & Aux for not a lot. The sound quality is compromised by the lack of door speakers anyway so no point spending a fortune. When I got my old one out I was greeted with power cable being loosely attached to a spade fuse rather than a captive fuse enclosure

yikes

2004 Tamora also has a proper connector & harness. I fitted a mechless unit (No CD) much shorted and still a bugger to get it and the wires back in again.

so it seems the best way to find out is remove the unit and no said rule throughout.... that's rather unusual for TVR
