Bonnet conversion SE
Discussion
Alan Howell gets great reviews on here and on the TVRCC forums.
Believe he uses a ball joint for the hinge(s)....The modification is pretty non-invasive!
He lives somewhere in the NE, but I believe he will travel if there are enough customers "darn sarf" to make the travel worth while.

I cannot praise Alan enough for doing this work.
Yes, for some, his location up North is not around the corner. For me it was a 550 mile round trip in a day, but well worth it.
I left home at 5am on a Saturday morning, arrived at Alan's home at around 9.30'ish, Alan got to work and carried out my bonnet conversion (complete with tea & biscuits provided by his wife), I was back on the road shortly after mid-day, and back home by 5pm..... and the car was awesome throughout the trip and a pleasure to drive.
In honesty the opportunity to give the car a good run was the primary reason for going to Alan, as opposed to him coming to me, but I enjoyed every minute, and the conversion is fantastic.

I like it very much, and am tempted.
From a security perspective, how does this work - After the conversion, can 'anyone' just open the bonnet? Or is it locked somehow?
Does it affect how the guys service the car, or is it more convenient for them too?
Would you have to declare it on your car insurance renewal as a modification?

From a security perspective - yes I guess anyone could open it.....if they know how!, although you can still lock it if you choose with the originally supplied key.
Doesn't affect the servicing, probably makes it a little easier ?.
I haven't mentioned it at insurance renewal as a modification, to be honest, hadn't though of it as such?.

Ok I have a price from Allan. If there are two or more of us it might be possible to bring it down a little. I'm flexible on timing, as I think is he. PM me anyone who's potentially in, please.

Hi Macky, I'm also talking to Allan via email. I'm by Stratford upon Avon so a bit of a diversion from the North but it could work!Niall
