I had my pod apart a few weeks ago, battery read 3v on a 3v battery.

I did not change it, what is your battery sitting at?

I understand it to be the supply to the volatile memory that holds the mileage (and other info) from being permanently lost.

Exactly that, when my dash was out having LCD screen done I replaced the battery. Take a note of the mileage before taking it out. Not sure how you re-enter the mileage reading Paul Smith did mine along with various software updates.

To change the battery I would advise soldering in another battery in parallel to the existing battery, take the original out then solder in the new battery, remove parallel battery and you should still have your mileage, maybe.
