EFI Warning

Came back home from offshore and cranked the car over for a few minutes idle - no problems.Next day fired it up to EFI warning and constant chiming alarm,rang the dealer who says no need for worrying if its been laid up a while,something about a pod battery
running down?I have done as he suggested and put a few miles on but can't clear the fault.Any one else had this? - car is due its service soon anyway so hopefully will get sorted along with the bloody speedo
which is allover the shop at 90 ish and goes ballistic when the car is booted.It packed in totally the other day and as the EFI warning overrides the data pages I have no idea if the digi read out was indicating or not.Stopped for fuel and it started to work again.

EFI warning can be driven by all number of sensors not giving in range readings. The most common is the Lamdba sensors. If the sensors are genuinely misreading you could endup puting unburn fuel into the exhausts and breaking the cats. If you are going for a service soon they will fix it then. If not it is worth getting the ecu on the computer at adealer to find out what it is.

Sometimes they do it in the wet after being parked uphill!

Have had the EFI fault on my Tuscan twice. Once when driving in very wet conditions and the other after washing the car on the drive.

Fixed by dealer but no explanation given as to the cause.

Dealer has informed me that EFI fault can show up when engine is out of tune.

.....but most likely when the sensors get wet after you've washed it or it's been left out in a heavy downpour.

I used to get the EFI warning a lot after washing the car. Dealers resealed everything at the next service and it's stopped happening since.

However also got a persistent EFI warning 2 months ago, luckily I had the 18k service booked for a week later. Was told that as there wasn't a specific letter code showing and the car drove fine not to worry. It turned out that the engine was slightly out of tune and it was all fixed at the service.

By the way, you might want to enquire about getting your pod software upgraded to a later version. Not sure if it can be done at the dealers, mine was upgraded when the pod went back to TVR to fix the speedo, oh and the clock! I can now override warning messages by pressing the right knob (as in turn of that irritating buzzer and return to the data pages, nice to be able to turn off the 'door open' warning). I presume all cars from about Y-reg onwards should have this anyway.

When people talk of sending off the 'pod' - what is this pod exactly - is it a box of gubbins behind the console or what? Also, any way of checking software versions on your own motor?

The pod is the bit behind the steering wheel with all the guages and dial on it, it has the software inside it

Not sure if you can check the version, I know the Tamora and Tuscan R have the version on the startup screen, but my 2000 Tuscan doesnt display the version anywhere

I had an EFI problem & got it sorted earlier this week.

Had been driving, stopped & came back to car - got "error O" when I put key in ignition, then EFI warning when I fired it up. This stayed on, apart from flickering back to normal occasionally whilst driving - esp. if going uphill or cornering! (think it was due to a loose connection somewhere). Took it to the garage, they plugged in the laptop, didn't come up with anything wrong & reset the warning. Been fine since then.

Also had temporary EFI warnings after washing - that's common & usu. goes away within 10 mins driving

I got this warning just before the New Year. I called the garage today and it could be serious. The worst case could be a fuel mix issue, where unburnt fuel could be squirting down the exhausts, destroying the cats.
Luckily I haven't driven it much since the warning came up but I thought it was worth mentioning that if you see this happen, the advice I got from the garage is stop the car and get it relayed for diagnosis.

Could be an expensive week, I'll keep you updated. If it's not fixed in time, does anyone have a passenger space for Surrey Run #3?

Have seen the 'EFI Warning' on several occaisions - the common one's being a) heavy downpour and b) High altitude driving (over the Alps) I haven't had the warning for a while which could be due to not being in either of the above situations recently or (more likely) the fact that my speedo has just come back from the factory for the FOURTH time!!!
