I've been going back round the car fixing a few of the niggling issues I've had since a full body off rebuild and I can't for life of me get the boot to fit nicely. On the driver's side the rear boot edge sticks up and there is a sqweeking sound from pressure on the rear windscreen catches.

My thoughts are the rear of the boot is sitting too low and could be shimmed up to make the rear of the boot sit up a bit?

Any ideas or experience welcomed!

Martin, Hi,

Mine does exactly the same - - even after a full respray 4/5 years ago.

I believe it's down to the gas strut exerting (unequal) pressure to the drivers side....Maybe that's why the MK.2's had 2 gas struts - One on each side?

Lots of similar posts on here....but bottom line is they are plastic bodies and will tend to deform slightly over time and with heat/sun.

My boot was always a tiny bit uneven and occasionally let in water but was advised it was one of the best. Its a complex 3-D shape so will always be variable in mould quality and how it mates to the shell. I started to get the forward edge lifting at speed due to play in the hinges. I decided to go to the later hinge system with gas struts each side. It does look a lot neater and since I was having it resprayed I had the bobbin for the old right hand strut glassed in. Strangely enough the right hand end seems to sit higher than it did on the old setup which is counterintuitive given the load in that area has now gone. The water coming in has got worse (although it no longer sits under a cover since the respray so that may be just the same as it was). There is a certain amount of fettling you can do but I don't think you'll ever get it perfect. If you ever do the hinge change, make sure you get the struts from TVR Parts rather than Racetech as there is a difference in length, even under the same part number.

Guys I had a crooked boot and have managed to adjust it. The key was loosening all the hinge bolts with the strut disconnected to ensure it wasn't a deformed boot mould issue. I've done two now and both always sit perfect like this. I found the hinges needed a little more adjustment than avaliable. I simple dremmeled an extra couple of mm in the slides and bingo.😀
