The heater fan has eventually stopped working on my 2003 MK1 Tuscan; for a few years there has been a knack to getting optimum usage, today during a chilly “taps aff” morning run through the Scottish Borders it gave up.
The following applies -
- Temperature control still works, can hear the mechanism working in the driver footwell area as I move the heater dial (though there was always a knack to getting that to move from cold to hot).
- the fan dial lights still illuminate in increments as the dial is rotated, however the fan no longer operates.
Aware it seems to be a common issue however any suggestions on the symptoms above most welcome?
Thanks

Dick,
First thing to try: (& zero cost option)
Front N/S wheel removed. Disconnect battery and lift out. Remove GRP panel on outboard side of batter 'box' (This may be secured by self tappers or silicone or both).
Locate in the void between inner and outer wing revealed by removing above grp panel A) power cables to heater fan, and B) Heater fan itself.
Clean/WD40 spade terminals on electric cables. Liberally spray WD40/contact cleaner/Fospro into grill of fan, just visible by getting your head well into wheel arch. ALSO!!! make sure the plastic tube drains from the stepper motor and flap areas above the Fan motor are clear (I used expanding flexible curtain 'rope') These drains allow condensate and any road water to exit said compartments.
Re-assembly is reverse of above. Be patient - allow the electrical cleaner/WD40 to soak into fan motor....it should then come back to life.

I had these exact symptoms, it was the heater ECU which is in the passenger footwell, mine was cable tied up to part of the loom. Check the connections on the ECU, mine were clearly burnt. The following applies -
