You stick to your car that handles like a shed and costs the same as a house to buy and we'll stick to ours. 0-100 in 8.2 seconds, my arse.

I've seen over 9000 rpm maximum recorded in the dash data on mine after re setting it and driving home once never going over 3500 rpm. Also my shift lights flash occasionaly at very low rpm so I don't think the ECU's rpm readings are very reliable. They seem to suffer from interferance which isn't effectively filtered out and results in brief excursions to fantastic rpm's being recorded.

quite right, it appears the ecu records it's own readings and the dash has it's own too .. you can regularly see these sorts of figures also water temp 160 deg, oil pressure 170 psi etc etc .. don't trust that bit. If the ecu diags shows 9k plus though it probably has actually done it!! scary.
I was referring to a story about someone at TVR (allegedly) testing a Tomato suspension on track - lap after lap downchanging and buzzing the engine to over 9k .. eventually it went bang so I understand - but stood up to a fair bit of wild abuse along the way which I thought was impressive. there's obviously some strong bits in there somewhere...

Mind did that - a POD trip back to Blackpool fixed it - both the max rpm and disco changeup lights.

Cheers,

Andy.

Sounds an interesting way to be testing the suspension, but I guess this is TVR we're talking about....

Interesting Andy, I asked about it at the last service a month or so ago and was told that it was a known and ongoing issue but there wasn't a fix.

Same thing with the mirrors only moving in one direction whatever button you press.

Which dealer do you use?

I am cool. I've driven one of these things on road and track. Felt like a bus, handled like one, gearbox was like stirring a bucket of porrige and it had the same quality interior as a London taxi. It was a comment based on personal experience....

Great looking car though....

Bertie, I used the TVR Centre. The POD had to go back to fix a wayward speedo needle. It came back all working.

Cheers,

Andy.

Certainly was "real" a real bloody disappointment that is....

One of my all time fave looking cars, destroyed my dreams in seconds. Like driving a bloody Leyland Daf Sherpa Van. (I've driven one of those too!!)

Wouldn't mind having a go in GTS though to compare...

Funnily enough I drove a Diablo and that was very much along the same lines. Great outside and a bloody handfull inside....Nicer feel but not even as well built as a TVR....

TVR= tubular steel chassis
Anyway, you mean that the diablos quality, or build quality is something like TVR or worse?

Sorry "Flasher"keep your cool man,by the way,can i just add that my "Viper"is NOT standard, uprated Engine/Box/Brakes/Suspension,never driven a standard GTS,but i have heard that the RT10(Different suspension&chassis set up)is very scarey over 150,a case of which lane on the motorway will i end up in!!,But please don,t insult my car,s performance,(noticed u at Le-Mans this year),if i see you next year come for a run in it....you may change you mind!,all i can say is that my speed six(when it ran correctly)was way slower....Anyway lets get off the subject of Vipers V TVR,s .....didn,t the last thread run and run!!!!!!!!!!,Just making my point as an X speed six owner, and feel sorry for others who had there dreams go up in smoke....See you at LeMans..Come for a run in it if you like but Your not driving! , i,ve heard about your antics "Flasher"!!

I do believe that Viper GTS has a lot of power, this engine is a monster ofcourse, but i didn't know about the chassis setup, etc...
But after all, all these cars with a better suspension setup (e.g. better shock abrosbers, springs etc...) brakes , engine, gearbox, etc. the car becomes better and better.
But , the difference is on the price and how much money everyone can affort for it.

ByronTVR

P.S.: Keep cool , there are a lot of different Vipers and Vipers

I realllllly didn't want to have to post this, but as much as I geared myself up to expect it, I did kinda hope that it wouldn't happen to me.... but it has...

Poor little beasty has had a tiff with it's camshaft and as such is rattling away like good-'un. MV have taken the car in and had a look, and are sending the engine off to Blackpool for a rebuild. So for a few weeks UR 02 SLO is going to be IM 02 SLO...

Still hasn't put me off the car, just sad to see that there's still a few issues with the engines. Or maybe mine's just a bit of bad luck and a one off, who knows...?

Anyhow, the car would have been off the road now anyway, for winter, and I had a load of bits of pieces for the dealer to look at under warranty so it would have gone in anyway.

Ho hum...

-andy-

So to get back on thread, Andy - have you got the car back and is it ok? Does it need running in?
