I was just watching a downloaded Top Gear movie with Tiff Neddell driving the Tuscan (the 4.0L one) and he says that he registered 183 mph!!! He mentioned that the "limiter chip" hadnt kicked in.

Does the TuscanS have a limiter chip? If it does, does that mean that the car can, in theory, make it past 200mph?

He probably meant the rev limiter. A Tuscan owner will confirm, but I think the Tuscan S is geared for 195mph and the 'normal' Tuscan a bit less. I could be wrong though.

whatever speed a tuscan does, it's not as much as a cerbie .. elvington proved that. fastest car on the day was a 4.5 cerbie. I know .. I was in it

At Elvington my Tuscan RR hit 182 on the digital speedo. It was still pulling and I could have gone faster/harder but was being sympathetic to my tyres when braking/cornering. (and attempting to avoid all those stonechips !)

I did not think the Cerbera's went any quicker ?

Yes Thom that's true, 184 on a GPS. The speedo however overindicated, systematically, some 10% so at that moment was indicating well over 200 but I didn't dare to look long enough (I was alone in the car). Also, the car didn't feel as if it was at the end of its potential, but I ran out of guts and out of autobahn. BTW it was a Cerb RR. I think from the EVO testing it was shown the (normal?) Tuscan speedo wasn't really reliable either?

Correct when EVO tested the Tuscan S on the Autobahn the Speedo flew past 200mph, the digital speedo read 180mph and the "Datron Satellite tracking system" showed the actual speed to be 166.5mph before they had to slow down and they were approaching "slower" traffic, they felt the car could possibly have done 195/200mph as it was still pulling very hard.

Top Gear managed an official 174(?)mph in that speed camera test and the speed was rising very quick.

AutoExpress also managed 178mph in the Tuscan S although it was very damp

Btw did you have time to look at the revs?
What speed do you think it could have achieved?

The aero kit definitely doesn't do the tuscan S any favours in the high speed aceleration (150+) stakes but the improved stability is worth it.

I suppose that if you fit the larger toyo tyres the speedo might be accurate?

I think the stability of the Tuscan, in particular the earlier ones comes down to the suspension set up. Myself and a few others have early Red Rose cars that have had a decent 3D wheel alignment and running on correct tyre pressures have not really noticed any problems with high speed stability, lifting or problems with high speed braking. Until I had the 3D wheel alignment done my car was "interesting" at speed. Obviously the S spoilers were done for a reason and must help, but I think getting it set up correctly is the biggest benefit. I think the fact the steering is so quick(esp on 35 series tyres)does make it feel more nervous at any speed than other TVR's, let alone 150+mph

As for top speed in comparison to the Cerbera...I personally think there cannot be much in it, but if all the Cerbera Red Rose car's put out 400 bhp like DannyLT's then they might just have the edge...

Is Elvington happening again this year ? Should be fun...

Have to agree with Whitey here, my early Red Rose Tuscan has been fine at speed, even doing an indicated 170 on a Belgian race track (left a Merc S600 behind, I think he hit the 155 limiter as he suddenly stopped accelerating ) the car was stable and slowing from that speed was fine as well, although I am not sure I would like to do a full on emergency stop!!!

I am not sure if the early problems were due to non Red Rose suspension or just poor settings, but the early Red Rose cars can certainly be perfectly OK

We all know the early Tuscan's did that of their own accord anyway! Even when pootling down the high-street...

After all the publisied worries about high speed stability and braking, I was pleasantly surprised when I experienced acceleration up to 140 followed by heavy braking that it was all very predictable and calm.

Its good if the lift at speed has be fixed, my non RR X reg felt pretty unstable and I only managed to get upto 170 and then in the middle lane with no other traffic. At lower speed under braking it was not very reassuring especially when hitting a bump.

The S feels great my wife was with me in the car and we hit 185 (all on the digital readout so dont know actual speed) and she wasn't at all nervous and the car felt very good.

The front spoiler is broken off at the moment and without it the front seems to go very light at about 140 so seems to do something.

I have wondered if the ability to maintain higher speeds and hence revs has been why my engine keeps giving up on me on this car.
