Dead Speedo - guess I should have expected it

Only had the Tuscan a couple of weeks and already the speedo's decided to pack up. Drove into work this morning at zero mph - made good time considering Lucky I have the Road Pilot or I would have been buggered due to all the speed cameras on Nottingham's ring road. After about fifteen miles the speedo came back to life briefly before dying again. It will be going in for its 1000 mile service soon so it's no big deal - as long as no one shoots the GPS satellites out the sky

did the digital speed readout fail as well as the internal windscreen wiper? - I have never lost the digital one. Mine took two attempts to fix, and has worked perfectly for two years now.

My Speedo is constantly going wrong. Currently it is behaving just like yours with intermittent total failure followed by a brief period of working OK. I've lost count of the number of repairs that I've had.

I mean ... making a reliable speedometer is not rocket science is it? Still, it keeps the mileage low

Yes - the digital readout failed too, not just the needle Is this bad?

If they both go its just a snapped cable

Its more likely the transducer, as its all electronic, there is no cable.

It's a hall effect pickup on a toothed cog on the diff output on the passenger side. If the distance from the cog to the sensor is incorrect the signal is corrupt and doesn't register.

Easy to adjust yourself, should be 1mm IIRC, or just get the dealer to adjust at service.

What year is your car? The diff sensor used to send signals to the speedo (digital and analogue) was changed in 2001 to a different sensor that was less sensitive to dirt and going out of adjustment. Mine was replaced under warranty (my car's 2001 Sept)and has not been a problem since. I also had a problem with the small plastic worm gear inside the pod - this had sheared, resulting in the failure of the analogue needle but continuation of correct readings from the digital readout. This was also replaced under warranty by a very nice lady when I visited the TVR factory for a meeting. Hope you get it sorted soon.

Yours isn't a black Tuscan is it? Saw what looked like a nearly new one last week near Nottm station in Black. Looked fantastic.
