Tuscan residuals

Just before I place my order what is the current opinion on Tuscan residual values? There seem to be a lot around at silly prices....is this because it's autumn, or is it because all the postings on this site re dodgy engines has taken the bottom out of the secondhand market, or is £5-10k drop in value over 12 months normal for a TVR???

Yes to all of the above plus it's no longer the new model. The early ones will drop below 30k before the year is out.
You might as well enjoy it while it goes !

Begs the question, but why buy a new one? I'm grateful to all those who choose to do so, coz it makes the 2nd hand ones cheaper for the likes of me, but is it really worth several grand to be able to pick the carpet coulour and break the engine in?

absolutley not, good call. Lets just hope they stay around the 30k mark.

For several grand you can change the carpets and the car colour of a 2nd hand car...

I think we have all just been spoilt by TVR residuals in the past and now we are just getting towards the normal levels. I happen to have Autocar on my desk so here is what I mean.

In 3 years/30k miles what do we think the worst case could be for a £39,000 Tuscan? Say £25k ish? Well look at the comparisons:

Tuscan loses 36%
911 Turbo loses 40%
M Coupe loses 46%
S2000 loses 57%
XJR loses 63%

There - do we feel any better now?

Just be glad you haven't spent £26k on a Nissan Maxima (loses 82%!)

PS: My Griff 400 lost as much in 8 months as it had in the previous 8 years so I do understand!

I'd very suprised if you could command £25K for a 3 yr old Tuscan privately.
Me thinks that is a tad optimistic. Closer to 20K is nearer the mark.

That is still not a *bad* residual.
If this is a key requirement for your car, buy a nearly new porker, as it's residuals will be much better. Shame a Tuscan will be more fun/rarer and garner more attention (all IMHO of course!)

That works out at about 20% depreciation per year on a £40,000 car over 3 years.

A 15% depreciation per year would = £25,000 after 3 years.

When you say it like that it's not too bad and compares well to other TVR models.
