Drivel (again) - Tuscan S on Tues 27 Nov

Caught the last 10 minutes of Drivel last night. It was the usual story of the public (ok - they were farmers and they were loking at 4x4's) liked that one but because we don't it won't come out on top. They also gave the Vanquish a drive, rather than blowing air and piddling at it. How unusual.
The main gist of this thread is that they are doing a Drivel 100 on the Tuscan S, Ferrari 360 and some German box called a 911 on next weeks half hour of poop. Just thought you all might like to know, to give us all something else to comment constructively on next Wednesday.

Yep. Outcome is predecided. The criteria will be everyday practicality , safety features such as airbags, traction, electronic stability control and ABS and interior build quality.
Oh look. The 911 wins. And its hardly the point is it? Damn Tuscan is HALF the cost and delivers MORE GRUNT.
If they could measure fun per £ the TVR should win. But it won't.

It seems to be compulsary for TVR owners to diss the 911 at any given opportunity. Just be a little more secure ! The Tuscan is a great car, but I have to be able to get in, turn the key and go. Every day. That's why I own a Porsche.

I reckon TVR owners slag off Porsche because of the mentality of tvr-ites - I mean, if you looked at it logically and sensibly, and took all the advice given, no-one would ever buy a TVR, and we would ALL, without a doubt, buy a Porsche. It is a far more meaningful proposition, and the 911 is a simply fantastic car, and justifiably the all-round best sports car/GT you can buy. But, human beings are strange creatures, and some value idiosyncracy, exclusivity, edgeiness, etc as virtues, which fit in with their own characters, and lifestyle choices - that's why we take criticism of our car choice so personally at this level. Whatever turns your key, is fine by me. I love my TVR, and I cannot really put into words why it just does it for me - it just does, and no amount of logic will persuade me to change. I admire Porsche for the integrity and packaging, and I sometimes envy their reliability, but Porsche products leave me cold, and TVR's, well, ooeer, missus!!

For what it's worth, I drove my Tuscan to the end of Cornwall on Sunday, 300 miles, of which for about 299.4 it was raining. Result - no leaks, no back pain, no deafness, about 24mpg. ONly hairy moments were the "rivers" that were running across various bits of the A30. The car felt a little twitch at 75mph+, but I need to replace my tyres anyway.

Drivel again - but at last they have seen the light and it scored better than a 911 Turbo and a 360 Modena. Good to see that in such esteemed company the good old Tuscan S can hold its own.

Autocar also ranked the Boxster S above a Tuscan, and thats a poofy Porker
TVR won on the grounds of cost of ownership and desireability
Porker Turbo was 10% faster round the track so it won best handling and practicality!!!!

Only thing that got me was that they took it to that Jordan factory to rate the Desirability of the cars - 2 people voted for the Ferrari, a few more at the 911 - and 9 people voted for the Tuscan.
Yet the scores for Desirability were 23 for the Tuscan, and 22 for the other two.
Did I miss something here? Seemed a bit off.
It still came top though - and that'll do for me!

I don't understand why they get that tw@t Mike Brewer to test the performance of these cars around a track. The guy clearly couldn't push them to the limits so of course the 911 wins - it's much easier to drive at 95%. Made me laugh when you saw him driving the 360, he was way off the apex of the corners, and then hard feet to spare on the exit - a ridiculous comparison really....

No but let's not forget that the Drivel Team were so desparate for the Porker to win that they gave it a massive advantage in the "reversing-into-a-parking-slot" test, on the other hand the Tuscan won the "desirability" test hands down yet it scored just one point more that their beloved Porsche. Lets face it the whole test is, well, er, drivel and proves nothing. What is true however is that every report I have seen this year (Drivel excluded) has rated the Tamora as an excellent car. It even made it into the finals of the PCOTY test, beating amongst other things the Boxter along the way.

a) if you were offered any of those cars for free, gratis - who wouldn't take the Ferrari
b)although we all like to think we are 'jason plato' like in our driving skills, lets be realistic most of us are far more mike brewer. if not as grotesque !!

Maybe so, but if I'd been asked to test those cars I would atleast try to get in a decent lap/corner for each one - the shot of the 360 going round the corner 2 metres off the apex summed it up really. Di they try to do the whole program in one take?
