Mines a 2002 with 43000 miles on, new engine at 15k. Uses about a litre every 1000 miles, but has a small leak from the top end which needs to be sorted at the service then hopefully the oil usage will drop.

Just lost 5th in my second gearbox in 3 months though!

Mine's a 2003 S, on about 43k

Rebuilt at about 39k at the end of 2007 when the timing chain broke, and is currently having a 2nd rebuild after the first one failed after just 3500 miles.

Ed, heard your car was at TVR Power when they had the fire...guess yours was ok then?

Yep - mine was one of the lucky ones thankfully, and I'm due to pick it up later this week biggrin

Found this excellent link set up by the-gopher. Gives stats on the Speed-Six engine.

My cars 2001 Tuscan Mk 1 - 21,000 miles no problems no re builds

2005 - Tuscan vert 16,500 miles no problems , no rebuilds but get this.

I am the speed six editor for the Sprint mag, we are just preparing an article re a speed six engined car that has done 155,000 miles (yes it has been rebuilt) but this should be interesting.

At last, a refreshing alternative to the endless stream of articles about the restoration of defunct Wedges loitering in delapidated barns and people sticking new veneer on their dashboards. sleep

Nice, is it a Tuscan?

assuming it's a year 2000 tuscan with that mileage, that's nearly 20000 miles a year.

That's 3 services a year. Not cheap.

Assuming it's motorway miles, I reckon it's had a minimum of 3 rebuilds probably 4.

Any other bids?

Infact, thinking about it, I find it hard to believe anyone has done that sort of mileage behind a Speed 6 engine.

the most I'd heard about was a T350 or Tamora on 66000 motorway miles, that was rattling like a tractor, but was still running.

The car in question is a Tamora.

I know where the car has been serviced but I really don't know a great deal more than that at this stage , I'm expecting a draft from the author of the article in the next couple of weeks ,at which point i'll follow up with interviews with the owner, those who service the car and hopefully take a good look at the car.

You'll have to wait until the article is published in Sprint for more..

Mines on 77,000 and had a rebuild last year. Was off the road for about 6 months last year waiting for the rebuild.

Nice thread revival.
I would like to think that by now many speed 6’s have proved they can do a decent mileage.

My Mk.1 2004 'S' has just clicked over 93K miles.
Has had a rebuild - pre-emptive and felt 'alone' without a 4.3???

Been to Europe every year since 2010/my ownership never returned on a low loader (touching wood)

Brings a smile to my face every time I go out in it.
