Vera has the 3 speed in. There is a cracking upgrade downloadable on the RP6DC site, but that incorporates a Supra 5 speed manual. I want a better auto. So, not wishing to hijack the thread below - or above - I thought I'd get into the box groove while it's topical. Any ideas are appreciated.

I`ve seen it done somewhere...I will investigate further and try to get back to you as I fancy the conversion myself...

The ROVER SD1 & V8 Club forum is a good place to start as there are a few guys with SD1`s using Jag bits and bobs although it`s offline ATM..I`ll post the link when it becomes available..

K5 is a member on PH and it`s his forum...Best wishes..

Hi,

A good auto box to use is a four speed auto, the ZFHP422. I am fitting one to my Sd1. It will mate to the V8 and was used in two wheel drive form in freightrover 400 police riot buses and ldv/freight rover v8 ambulances. Some ambulances also had the 3.9 hotwire engione as well, and go for £1000 on ebay. It will need a diffrent length prop and a suitable mounting arrangemant. The only thing I am not sure about is if it will pysically fit in a P6!!

best regards

Andy

Could you not use a 4 speed box from a later Range Rover?

Dunno, Max; will ask around though, Thanks. Is that the ZF4 HP22? If so, that's the one that's been suggested anyway.

Did you ever contact the SD1 site re your dad's Vitesse? (other thread)

Hi Jim,

Yes, I think it is the HP22. Obviously bell housings and adaptors won't be a problem, I think transmission tunnel and prop shaft would be your only worries (assuming there's no fiendish electrics to contend with)

Yes, I joined the club and am looking at options. I think I'll do the work myself as a professional re-build for the body is looking to be between 6 and 10k. I'll get it sprayed professionally, I'll do as much prep as possible and see if I can find somewhere that'll spray it during a quiet period to keep costs down. Stripping the body will give me a chance to fit Air-con to keep my better half happy. My plan is to get the Vitesse rebuild (with some nice bit's I've got knocking around, 4.6 block, decent heads, 45mm inlet trumpets, ported manifold etc) and then sell my Golf and use it as my daily driver. (Might look into LPG whilst I'm at it)

Cheers,

Max
