Seems to explain why so few BMWs appear to have functioning indicators these days laugh

Considering how complex cars are these days it is surprising how few recalls there.

how original wink in honesty i doubt BMW drivers are worse than any others; it's just they have a reputation so people look for it more.

good move by BMW, but a fk up that shouldn't have really happened IMO.

can't see why it'd be any different.

I'm yet to see a 5 or a 6 series randomly up in flames though tbh
This is the idea of the recall - so it doesnt happen.

Seriously good point though, if BMW get 100,000 5 and 6 series owners back to their showrooms for an hour, I bet they would pick up a minimum of 1% new deals as a result. That's 1000 new car sales as a result of being a caring car manufacturer... Should cover costs OK...

E61 wasnt listed in the article and as the battery is boot mounted I'd guess the layout is different on the estate model..

Good call BMW. We all make mistakes, only difference is how quickly and professionally we deal with them.

Might have to combine the visit with a test drive of an M6. tongue out

I had a E60, 57 plate, exactly like the one in the photo...same colour, wheels etc. I had so many electrical issues with the car it was unreal. The items attended to as a recall were generally called Campaigns... which kept those problems out of the headlines as recalls. Over and above the campaigns I had to have 8 coils, 8 injectors, 8 plugs and it was only a 6 cylinder!! To be fair BMW covered the first three but then it was a struggle to get them to pay for the rest, but they did, albeit grudgingly. I got to the point that with the warranty expiring that I could not trust it and hence I bought an XJ, which too had issues but where seamlessly covered by the dealer. What is surprising from this thread though is that everyone is slapping BMW on the back for issuing a recall... was everyone so forgiving when Toyota did this a few years back... I think not.

Great! That's what car my mrs and kids drive around in, better check the post!! It's a pity BMW (UK) won't admit to the E46 M3 rear subframe issues (like BMW North America have, after a big lawsuit) and recall them too! It's the only thing putting me off buying one at the moment!

Especially as it turned out a few years later that it was the drivers and not Toyota's fault! Not as many headlines letting Toyota off the hook though was there!

funny no other car is suffering from poor maintenance and bonnets flying open ...
What other than ford focus bonnet catch failure, the clio secondary catch seizes due to lack of lubrication nothing sinister about it,it's just the facts,i dont think they have the resources to police every technician at every dealer on every service lol, most manufacturers have issued recalls for years nothing new, also recalls generally fall into a few types, recalls that are monitor/check only. Dangerous defects which are a iminant risk, letters sent out etc, it's standard practice

How many ferrari's set on fire before they issued a recall?
Don't know. About 3?

Anyway, recalls don't always work in favour - remember Lancia recalling Betas when they were failing their 1st MOTs with subframe rust issues? (As were Toyotas, Datsuns, Alfas of the same era.) Lancia were silly enough to admit to the problem and apparently refunded/replaced the cars (destroying all of the recalled units) only to suffer a media backlash.
They should've kept quiet like the other manufacturers!

Just like the recall for rad caps many moons ago, a great marketing tool to update databases and bring traffic into the dealerships. smile
Wonderful cynicism. Love it!
The Rad Cap Recall must have been one of the best marketing campaigns larger recalls by a car manufacturer.

Will the E90 3 Series be found to have the same defect in about 12 months time when the initial F30 sales boost has slowed down? rolleyes

My E61 550i just so happened to be in a BMW Mon\Tues, when they called today to advise it was ready I asked about this recall, he said it wasn't flagging up on this model, but it did for a E60 530d this afternoon. I'll see if I get anything in the post.

As someone i know says, proof of good customer service is not about how you act when things go right, but how you act when things go wrong.
