I was getting minus 5 minutes, somewhat facetiously suggesting I'd have to slow down to maintain 80mph on my commute. I really don't think many people would intend on doing 80mph afterwards that do 70mph now. It'll just legalise the actions of the majority with little other consequence.

Other than winding Brake up, of course.

German fatality rates are higher comparing autobahns to UK motorways. Europeans sow down when it is bad weather us in the UK see the speed limit as a target and do not drive according to the conditions.

There is no such thing a an accident, there is always someone to blame.

I am all in favour of a 80 or higher speed limit but he thick motorists in the UK to tell them the speed limit for all conditions.

If Britons really are the morons of Europe (where 80mph is recognised as the standard), perhaps Brake are right...irked

Ha, ridiculous. These Brake people must be the ones that actually sit and stick to 60-70mph (in the middle/fast lane probably causing accidents!)

Come on you lot are so wrong Speed kills, but hang I am still alive unless I am the exception to the rule being a petrolhead it has meant I did drive in excess of the speed limit at least once in my life, tell you what driving at 80 mph instead of 70 mph is just so much more dangerous really really scary!!

I recently got caught doing 70mph on the M42 on the variable limit set at 50mph having driven all the way from Edinburgh I was driving to the conditions and to be honest didnt think the tax collectors were working, so there I was driving at 70 mph on a motorway with perfect visibilty and do chance of hittng the car in front mind you was making sure I had sufficient gap to the car in front, £60 and 3 points.

2 weeks later same motorway absolutely peeing down only safe to drive at 50mph that is what I was doing plenty of rep mobiles passed me at 70 plus but guess what no reduced speed limit.

Anyway back to the point speed doesnt kill inappropriate speed kills, I say bring in the limit and let us get somewhere a bit quicker.

Is this article about increasing the speed limit to 80mph or about self centered BRAKE whining and moaning on as usual? I can't be bothered to read the comments now BRAKE has got into the limelight again.

Fabulous! Now we'll have a whole bunch of un-MOT'd pre-1960 cars gunning for their top speed, and holding us all up.

The real problem isn't the speed I don't feel, it's one that's exhibited at all sppeds on any road. Poor driving standards.

An adjustment in speed would exacerbate the problem. If everyone could drive perfectly we could travel at 100 without issue.

When you see the idiot joining a motorway via an on-slip without even looking to his/her right you know some people are crap drivers and they won't get any better until their standards are adjusted.

Let's call bks on that propaganda once again.

If it's not an accident, it's "a deliberate".

Which is rarer than BRAKE's credibility.

Absolutely right on the first point - this propaganda is bks.

Unfortunately not on the second point. BRAKE are clever and manipulative. They have credibility with the general public which makes them very dangerous. After all, who could be against saving even one child's life (which is more emotive bks) ? ...banghead

If you cause a crash then it's not an accident in my opinion. You are in control of the vehicle and your actions cause the car to crash then there is no accident.

If you were in full control then it wouldn't happen.
