How does the dvla put points on a fake licence? I thought these things would have been computerised and impossible to do. Appreciate it was in 2002 but still! Seems a strange one.
Thanks

45 years ago. 1972. WAY before photocard licences. If it was real, it'd be the old-style paper licence - and still have been valid until today. Assuming she'd not moved house, It was only when she hit 70 that she'd have needed to renew it and would have gained a photocard. And that was only a year ago. I bet there's a whole load of people in their early 70s and beyond who've not renewed their licences...
But in 2002, photocard licences were still very new - they were only introduced in 1998 - so very few people had them. The primary record then was on the paper licence or counterpart. Entirely believable it didn't get checked back to Swansea.

So she was stopped in a routine stop, handed "her licence" over, but said it was an old address on it. The police noticed the driver number couldn't be hers because the driver number was "male", so did a bit more digging. I didn't know the driver number indicated gender - but apparently it does. Digits 7/8 are month of birth, 01-12 for male, 51-62 for female...
