RE: New fuel discount scheme launches
Discussion
I just signed up, Guess it works quite easily really, if you can get "x number" of customers to buy your fuel instead of the competitions then you would offer them a discount. I would also expect it to be available from "owned forecourts" as the local garage would not want to be giving discount on his fuel. If I had to guess I would go for a supermarket chain but whoever let it be soon. My cars on the way.
mmm,
seems quite similar to a scheme which runs here in the Netherlands.

and quit successfull I might add.
It gives you a 6 eurocent discount on each liter of fuel (discount is based on the 'normal' fuel price as quoted by Shell, the Dutch marketleader.

Anyone else noticed that Ben does not answer any of the questions posted here, just occassionally thanks you all for your support?
The profit margin on petrol and diesel does not allow for such a margin as that quoted.
Ben,
I have looked at your 'Times Online' pages and find them a little dodgy. Any comments, Mr Scammell?
Also, where is the evidence of the 50,000+ membership company deals you mention on the site?
I believe you may once have worked for BP yourself in the past. Is this the company you are negotiating with?

A lot of companies offer 'bulk' buying or 'Group buy' discounts....obviously some petrol companies are also willing by the look of it.
Fuel company X obviously said to Mr Scammel, get us 10,000 members that are all part of a motoring club (for e.g.) and we'll give the members 5p off what ever per litre.
If it is BP, I can't help but laugh at the irony because wasn't there a national plea to boycott the petrol giant recently?
Seems people can easily forget when you start talking hard currency!
Anyway, good luck to Mr Scammel.

I too have signed-up, although I am a bit 'concerned' that in Pipeline's FAQ section, the question "How many members have you got now?" does not have the other much-asked question: "How many members are you seeking?"
Ben, how about answering that one eh?...even if it is just to reassure some waverers.

Apologies for appearing to not answer your questions, Pipeline Card has been discussed on over 1600 forums to date so it's impossible to get round them all.
I don't understand why you think the Times Online article is dodgy?

We have just sent out a message to all our members to announce 100,000 members.
The "how many members do you need" question is answered in our Questions & Answers section. The answer is however not a number, becuase the more we get the more leverage we have, and therefore the more discount we can negotiate.
Hope that helps!

Must admit to being a skeptical about the proposed discount. It accounts for a large proportion of the producer's & retailers margins. But, I've signed up anyway and would love to be pleasantly surprised. Just to set the record straight; road fuels are not "overpriced" they are overtaxed. Bad guy is H M Government. Compare actual price of a litre of U/L, (i.e. less Duty and VAT), with the price for a litre of Evian etc, (or beer), and then think about the production process etc etc for each. End of rant.
Website is not dead, and we are unaware of having any problems.

Do the skeptical ones here know that many large companies with fleets of cars have already negotiated discounts with major UK petrol distributors? I don't know the exact figures, but it has to be at least a couple of pence to make it worthwhile! Perhaps someone who is involved with one of these companies has more info???
Good luck everyone!
